And I thought my rapid appearance of more gray (I too am 35) over the past couple months was due to holiday, financial and professional stress, but Duh! it was Strat. OK, that's it, I am NEVER putting Reggie Smith on a team again. I am putting the blame squarely on his shoulders.

I came to this after my step-son received a Chgristmas card from a family whose dying daughter just gushed about this game and its wondeful community.
Unfortunately I was too slow to play with this child before she passed.
I was just going to try it and see.
I found a community of caring people and a hobby that is in one word -FUN. Needless to say I havebecome hopelessly addicted and one of the more active players if not active chatters.
This has rekindled a boyhood interest that had long ago been dampened by my sometimes unusual life. I cannot begin to repay the hours of joy this game has given me and the wonderful people here are tremendous.

This is a nice thread to start the year off....Hope it continues with more responses. BTW...I started a thread for the 2nd Annual Las Vegas Tournament. Take a peak at it. If you feel SOM (ATG) is indeed a "Field of Dreams" then this event will allow you to meet people in person, put a face behind the name, shake hands, give a hug and make the dreams come true. The people make the game. Otherwise, playing ATG would make you feel like it's you against 11 computer opponents. Plus the event gives me a chance to show my wonderful mid-western wife that I, as an Eastern boy, can display hospitality just as great as she does....sounds competitve...lol,lol Check the thread...come and bring a spouse or friend(s), whatever....You're always welcome...Bobby :D :D :D

It's one of two things:
1) It's an addiction. Face it, Strat is online crack for the baseball minded. I found the game after my total frustation of finding a good XBox or PC simulation game. Why can't the folks at EA Sports figure out a good fantasy simulation/owner mode? SportsMogul was the closest thing I could find that would let me play umpteen seasons for one initial purchase price. Diamond Mind was utterly user unfriendly. Even PC Strat pales because you have to buy all the season disks. But now that I'm here, it's because I'm not just playing tons of seasons against a computer or myself. The competion here is fierce--and more important, honest and enthusiastic.
2) The voices in my head. They overshout the voices outside of my head, namely my wife and dog. Now that baby #1 is well on the way, I'm hoping the voices keep getting louder. (No cry for a diaper change is going to keep me from a frenzy, dangit!) But at the same time I wish they'd also stop telling me to spend the rest of my dwindling discretionary income buying sports memorabilia--especially NFL throwback jerseys like that sweet 1980 Bartkowski and 1985 Largent--on eBay. *sigh*

Largent jersey - very sweet, he was my favorite football player in the '80s. Zorn to Largent and then Krieg to Largent - football beauty.
But... Bartkowski? William Andrews, Auburn grad, I could understand, but Bartkowski? It must have been cheap. ;)

You're kidding me about Bartkowski, right? He was the 1980 NFC MVP. Had 2 back-to-back 30 TD seasons. Rookie of the Year in 1975/76. All those last minute victories, too. The original Kardiac Kid before the Browns took the moniker. (I am first and foremost a Browns fan. Ask me about my Stall & Dean 1946 Browns throwback (long sleeves, Brownie patch) while we're talking sweet jerseys.) Bartkowski's 1980 red jersey was voted ESPN 2.com's best throwback jersey not long ago, followed closely by Lance Alworth's powder blue Chargers shirt from the 1960s.
