Question about defensive ratings

I have a question about defence that I am hoping some of you strat fans could answer. Here is the situation. In a 2006 league I am currently in, I had 2 players that were capable of playing first base. Travis Hafner and Carlos Pena were the only guys that could play 1B. They were both out with injuries. HAL had to put Chris Singleton in at 1B, even though Singleton has no 1B rating. In a message with another league manager, I mentioned that Singleton would automatically be rated a 5e88 at 1B. But I am not 100% sure. Am I correct? If this is true, and lets say Hafner had to play in LF, would he be a 5(+5)e88 ? Any info would be great,thanks.
