DEC 4 - "1969 VIRGINS NIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTLY"

Three touchdowns were enough as the Analysis Paralysis ballclub embarrassed the Orlando Yankees by the count of 21 to 11. Analysis scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning, and tacked on 5 runs in the 7th and 8th innings! Eight players had at least 2 hits each, with five having 3 hits each! The loss was charged to Gary Nolan (1-3). He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 and 2/3 innings of work.

DEC 5 - "1969 VIRGINS NIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTLY"

The #1 overall selection in the draft, Willie McCovey, had 5 hits to raise his season average to .353 as the burnt weeniesandwich outscored the Obviously 5 Relievers in 11 innings 8 to 7. McCovey drove home Don Buford with a two out triple in the 11th off top tier closer Ron Perranoski to the dismay of the hometown crowd. Weeniesandwich pounded out 23 hits for the game, but also left 17 runners stranded.

DEC 6 - "1969 VIRGINS NIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTLY"

Lou Brock smacked 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI and John Gelnar came through with a solid 7 innings as the Midnight Cowboy defeated the Buffalo Holly Byrds by a score of 10 to 7 at Fenway Park. Brock was spectacular at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 1st inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 3rd inning and smacked a three-run homer (his 6th of the season) in the 4th inning. Cowboy manager Jon Voight said, "Lou had been the subject of a few trade rumors. He had been off to a very slow start, but this game might be the jump start he needed. He acted like he was hitting off either a tee or Ernie Broglio!"

DEC 7 - "1969 VIRGINS NIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTLY"

Gaylord Perry fired a shutout as the Analysis Paralysis beat the Bakersfield BigRedMachine05 by a score of 5 to 0. Perry (8-4) walked none and struck out nine while lowering his E.R.A. to 3.89. Perry said, "I was experimenting with a new pitch today. The ball really seemed to have some good movement and the hitters look confused. I'll tell you more about it after I retire!"

DEC 8 - "1969 VIRGINS NIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTLY"

Tom Seaver carried a no-hitter into the 9th inning as the Orlando Yankees
destroyed the Midnight Special by a score of 14 to 0 at RFK Stadium. Seaver (6-8) was virtually untouchable. He allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk in 9 innings. The right-handed Seaver lost his no-hit bid when Tito Fuentes singled with two outs in the 9th inning! "Seaver took our guys to school" Midnight Special manager Wolfman Jack said. "I predict if Seaver stays in this league for a while, he will get his no hitter! I if had to guess, I'd say probably around June 16, 1978."

DEC 9 - "1969 VIRGINS NIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTLY"

First baseman Tony Horton launched 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Claude Osteen tossed a complete game as the Buffalo Holly Byrds were badly beaten by the Analysis Paralysis, 13-2. Horton enjoyed a great day at the plate. He lofted a three-run bomb in the 1st inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 8th of the season) in the 3rd inning, lined a base-hit in the 5th inning and doubled which was good for two runs in the 6th inning. "I think if you ask around the league, you'll find Tony Horton is a respected player, said Paralysis manager Jacque Itch. "Check out his numbers. He's hitting .310, driving in runs, and to be honest with you, I'm making more money than he is!

DEC 10 - "1969 VIRGINS NIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTLY"

Don Kessinger singled home Tony Oliva after his triple in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Obviously 5 Relievers defeated the Orbiting Dead Circuits 9 to 8 at Cleveland Stadium. Phil Niekro was cruising along with a five run cushion after eight innings. Manny Sanguillen led off the ninth with a line shot to center that glanced off Rick Monday's glove for a two base error. After a flyout and two singles, Dead Circuits manager Major Tom brought in closer Lou Marone to shut the door. He was greeted by Mr. Nate Colbert with a 3 run blast and Art Shamsky followed with another home run to tie the score. "All I could think while watching Colbert's blast was 'Houston, we have a problem! And the saying 'Ground control to Major Tom' kept running through by mind. I may need to take a few days off after this defeat!"

DEC 11 - "1969 VIRGINS NIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTLY"

Phil Niekro whitewashed Woodstock on 1 hit as the orbiting Dead Circuits topped the Woodstock Outhouses III by a score of 2 to 0 at Yankee Stadium. Niekro(12-5) simply dominated Woodstock. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 1 single to Leo Cardenas in the 3rd inning while lowering his ERA from 3.36 to 3.16. The pitchers took over after the 1st inning as neither team was able to score again. "I had my mind set on throwing a complete game today! After we lost my last start entering the ninth with a five run lead, I was really locked in the entire game!"

Jim Spencer got the call around 2:00. "Midnight Cowboy G.M. Johnny Law called and said Cleon Jones and Rich Reese had been hurt. They were releasing P Bob Humphreys and wanted some help at 1B. Law had previous experience with Danny Cater, but wanted to see if I was in playing shape. I think I did a cartwheel on the spot! He asked if I could be in Woodstock, NY by game time. I told him I was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania and knew how to get to Woodstock!"

Spencer did arrive in time, and in his first at bat for the Cowboy, he hit a grand slam. That was enough for Jim Palmer who reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts as the Midnight Cowboy defeated the Woodstock Outhouses III by a score of 16 to 9 at Metropolitan Stadium.
