I am not sure if the reactions above are "So little for Jeter?" or what, but actually I like this deal for both parties. Jeter is consistently overvalued IMHO in SOM and unless he gets 1's at SS (which he likely never will again) and continues to put up a .390 OBP (which I also think is questionable as his speed decreases), AK got pretty fair value. The 4th round pick may be a bit low, a 3rd would probably be more in line, but to my mind D Young on his own has almost as much value as Jeter on a card-for-card basis for 2008 given his superior split vs RHP & Jeter's downgrade to a 2 rating. Almost all SSs that will be fielded in a 12-team league will have 2 ranges or better so you really need a 1 range or a very high OPS vs RHP to distinguish yourself from the SS crowd.
If Kemp can turn into a 2-range CF, hit for 30-35 HRs and get on base at a .360 or better clip, he can be a nice #6 hitter for this format for 10-12 years, when Jeter probably just has 2-3 more good years left in him. Kemp to me projects as a Mike Cameron type of guy with a bit more power/BA.
For Smokey, he pays a reasonable price for a guy he'll need for a few years until (hopefully for him) HanRam can become at least a 3 at SS -or- as is rumored, he moves to CF where he replaces the departing Kemp in Smokey's lineup.
Everybody will have their own takes on this deal obviously, but it doesn't shock me one bit.
