Need Advice...

Postby kurtz2001 » Mon Dec 24, 2007 12:02 pm

On my magical mystery tour of Strat-o BP's (the most recent stop...Busch 07...is a disaster of biblical proportions) I have entered Dolphins stadium (06) and could REALLY use some advice. Please look over URL http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2006/team/team.html to see the results of my draft and let me know what I could use to make me invincible! I am playing in a division where the opposition has Yankee Stadium, US Cellular, and Turner.[/i]

Your link leads people back to their old 2006 teams. To post a link to your team, go to the schedule page on your league. Copy and paste the shortcut to the link from your team name there. I hope that makes sense. If you get your link up later today, I should be able to take a look at it and try to help you out this evening. Good luck.

That's the same link, Kurtz.

1. Go to "Your League" at the top of the page.

2. From there, go to "Schedules," and left click on that link. It will show every team and who they are playing each day of that week.

3. Find your team name, doesn't matter what day, and right click on it. A small window will open up, and you want to select "copy shortcut."

That shortcut is what you want to post in these forums, because the address at the top of the page will only lead us to our own teams. I hope this helps.

Okay, I have been working with the current set all year, so I am going to try to give you a rundown of things I would change on your roster. Please keep in mind that I have forgotten a lot of what works with the 2006 set, and am just telling you what I would do if I were the owner of this team.

1. You've spent too much on pitching, especially in the bullpen. Rick Helling is going to throw a lot of innings for you, so I don't think you need Scot Shields. Ryan Dempster and Jason Vargas are conspicuous by their presence on the roster as well, but I am willing to bet that you didn't intend to draft at least one of them.

2. Orlando Cabrera and Adam Kennedy in the middle infield, with Chris Duffy in centerfield, gives you exceptional defense up the middle of the diamond. That said, I think you might find the frequent injuries to Kennedy and Duffy to be frustrating. I would lose one, replace them with a more reliable (less injury prone) player, and find a good defensive backup for the one you do keep. If memory serves me correctly, Neifi Perez was a solid defender at 2B in that set, and Corey Sullivan was a god defensive outfielder. Just a thought.

3. A.J. Pierzynski is not the answer at catcher. I would almost rather go with Molina as the starter and move the A.J. money elsewhere. If you can get Matheny or Ausmus, I would recommend them.

4. Your outfield is weak. Jay Gibbons might show you some decent power over the course of the season, but his OBP and strong doubleplay tendencies could have you pulling out your hair. I would recommend downgrading Derrek Lee at 1B and grabbing someone cheaper so you can pick up some solid corner outfielders. A replacement at 1B might be... Scott Hatteberg? Losing Lee might sound ridiculous, but my reason is logical. He's chewing up a ton of your cap space, and his salary could help you fill a ton of holes.

I hope I've given you some stuff that you find useful. I'll check back on the 26th. Merry Christmas.

Appreciate your Help...

I'm still looking for a LF but I've made some adjustments that I hope will help (including the acquisitions of Sullivan, Perez, and Toby Hall). Hope your holiday was a good one and thanks again.

ok, if you're gonna use Lofton at DH, presumably for leadoff, you gotta get the best leadoff platoon at DH in the 06 set (since it is available). Garabito/E young. Get em, lead them off vs their strong side and forget about it. Then bat Duffy in the #2 spot and the OB at the top is taken care of. And yes Sullivan is the best backup for Duffy value wise, good pickup.

Part of your problem is there aren't any good value LH power hitters left. Gibbons is a nice #5/6, but getting a #4 behind Lee would be nice. You might have to the platoon route to do this. Winn is probably your best bet, Bat him #4 vs R then Gibbons.

Having Meuller and Crede also kennedy + Perez is redundant. You need to pare it down to the minimum. Your starting 9 (or more if their are platoons) can be over a mil. your backups should be under 1 mil unless it is backing up a high injury player (Duffy, but Sullivan backs up all 3 OF spots as well). Also, pair down to 5 SP's only. And really in your park you should have at least 1 LH RP that isn't just a 9L cheapies. Shields is a must keep. But the other 2 I'm not as fond as others.

Back to your offense, you are allowed 2 holes for def. I.E. Caberea/Kennedy/Hall makes 3 holes. 1 needs to be upgraded to at least a threat worthy of the 7th spot in your lineup.

Well that's my .02 to throw in there, hope it helps!
