Round 7, League 6 - Sign-up time (LIVE DRAFT)

the official tournament of SOM Baseball 20xx

Postby Cubit » Sat Dec 29, 2007 3:51 pm

I really don't get all the frustration people feel with live drafts-- these are games we are playing here, among adults, and sometimes, at particular points in a draft, one cannot check on a thread; I've been frustrated, and guilty, in turns, but I love the Live Drafts. Compared to that random stuff, completely without compare. At least I have a good chance of making my own mistakes here, as all are free to note!

Anyway, proxies were invented for a reason and we really do have a pretty good idea of what's out there at this stage of the season.

Moreover, I think this group has done an outstanding job moving through into the 13th round already... Keep it up fellow.

Now over to Fatty

The frustration isn't with the live draft. The frustration is with the live draft lingering out there for a lengthy period while all the other things in life are going on around you, and you are constantly scrambling to "check in" only to find that you are waiting on the same people over and over.

It must be great to have nine guys set a dozen proxies while the others stop to take in each round at their convenience.

There is absolutely no reason a draft should take more than a day. Actually, it should only take a few hours. I wish the software would accommodate some minimum required number of proxies before you start the draft. Or go all the way and have a 25 man draft card with proxies at each position, so you hit start and the thing is over in two seconds.

Truth be told, I don't feel that there is any inherent advantage to going one pick at a time. I would end up with more or less the same team I wanted here in any given autodraft anyway.

Plus, I thought that this invitation was pretty self explanatory:

[quote:b14da6ede4="uncle ny"]Please do not sign up for this league if you are not committed to running a prompt and respectful draft. If you're one of those players who don't check the draft site regularly and/or don't ever use proxies, please join a different league.[b:b14da6ede4][/b:b14da6ede4][/quote:b14da6ede4]

But, there are only four rounds to go, and I see we're moving again...

I really agree with Uncle NY on this one and it seems that this is exactly the good kind of draft with a great group. Now at the end of the draft, rounds 16-18, everyone needs to be careful not to have the proxies do some bizarre things, but we're almost home free!

I was not aiming any comments at anyone, since I certainly have been guilty of letting things hang up in some of the drafts I've been in, but especially with this league jumping off rather surprisingly in the Holiday week, we've done spectacularly, imho.

Not bad. The pace really picked up and we should be able to load and go by tomorrow night or Monday by the latest.

It's easy to see why 88-90 games can now win a tour division. This draft is a perfect example of the stronger competition across the board. Many, many teams I thought had excellent drafts, and it'll be left up to HAL to sort 'em out.

On [b:2ccc22e06e]Dec 24 [/b:2ccc22e06e]at [i:2ccc22e06e]9:14 [/i:2ccc22e06e]Teepack ran his sodomizer on us and posted the draft order/divisions

On [b:2ccc22e06e]Dec 30 [/b:2ccc22e06e]at [i:2ccc22e06e]13:01 [/i:2ccc22e06e]tmm makes pick [u:2ccc22e06e][i:2ccc22e06e][b:2ccc22e06e]#200 [/b:2ccc22e06e][/i:2ccc22e06e][/u:2ccc22e06e]of the draft (Rd17)

6 days and 4 hours = 148 Hours.

[i:2ccc22e06e]We made a pick around every 40 minutes[/color:2ccc22e06e][/i:2ccc22e06e].

**However, our first pick actually happened on [b:2ccc22e06e]Dec 25 [/b:2ccc22e06e]at [i:2ccc22e06e]18:40[/i:2ccc22e06e]

4 days and 18 hours = 114 Hours.

[i:2ccc22e06e]We've actually picked at a rate of 1 pick every 34 minutes[/color:2ccc22e06e][/i:2ccc22e06e].

**Even more... Round 1 (Check in-no clock-grace period) actually finished on Dec 27 at 10:45

Since then we made 188 picks in 3 days and 3 hours = 75 Hours.

[i:2ccc22e06e]Since we all checked in we have made a pick at a rate of 1 pick every 24 minutes[/color:2ccc22e06e][/i:2ccc22e06e]

Considering that this has spanned over Christmas eve, Christmas day, one of our buds driving off the road and the weekend before New Years... I think we have made a [u:2ccc22e06e][i:2ccc22e06e][b:2ccc22e06e]remarkable[/b:2ccc22e06e][/i:2ccc22e06e][/u:2ccc22e06e] time.

Thank you guys for setting proxies and checking in often, considering holidays, weekend and all... Much Much appreciated.

8-)

League Created.

Postby cummings2 » Sun Dec 30, 2007 2:01 pm

I don't know how much access I'll have the in the coming hours, I have created the league and filled my card with players I don't think will be drafted.

If, for whatever reason a player on my card gets drafted I should have enough time to go back and re-do my card before we draft.

If, however we draft before I get a chance to correct my card I will send you your player ASAP pre-waivers.

I am going ahead with this option as I am in the East and I don't want to hold the loading process.

League info PM'd to Eastern teams and posted here in case the message doesn't relay to the central teams

Thank you all and good luck!
