Is it just me, or is anyone else surprised Rico Petrocelli lasted until pick five in two straight live drafts?

We were saving him just for you, JLaw. Well, at least now you have your 3rd baseman!

Draft

Postby JOHNEIGENAUER » Fri Dec 28, 2007 3:26 pm

Hi Guys

I am in South America for a couple of weeks. I happened to find an Internet kiosk and log in. I am glad to see that you have begun the draft. I want to send along my apologies in advance because there is a pretty good chance that I will slow down the draft. But I guess everyone knew that ahead of time... Anyway, I do not want to set proxies this early because I like to see what everyone is doing.

Good luck! I am off to eat some fresh pineapple and sit in the sun!

I drafted earlier today (Roberto Clemente).

I am a newbie to the draft process, and something I just realized is that when you draft a team by the regular means, the accumulated salaries of all of your players is indicated, along with an average of what you can spend for each remaining player. There is a mechanism to keep the team's cumulative salary below the salary limit before you submit your team for the draft.

To the best of my knowledge, I believe that everyone needs to keep track of how much salary money is remaining for your team during the manual drafting process. Although it should be apparent, I just wanted to remind everyone that after you draft someone like Clemente, that uses up almost 1/8th of the $80 million salary cap. The remaining 24 players will average just under a $3 million salary. Everyone needs to make certain to leave enough salary remaining to add nine additional players after the drafting process has been completed.

I just want to make certain that a team doesn't draft a player that the manager discovers he can't afford later on when he prepares his team for the automated draft, because that would be unfair to other managers who missed the opportunity to draft the player.

This is my third '69 team. Had he been available, I would have drafted Petrocelli, who was on my two other '69 teams. But I lost out. However, this is the first time that I will have Clemente on my team, so I'm excited about that.

:) :)

Good points! It's definitely a game of "asset management" when there is a $80 miilion cap.

The autodraft is nice in that it provides an amount spent so that you can see how you are spending relative to the other owners in the league.

Sal Bando and John E.

Postby Risden » Sat Dec 29, 2007 4:26 pm

John - Even though you are in South America, I saw this pick coming all along.

This is the third 1969 Live Draft that I have been in and John has managed to snag Sal Bando in all three drafts (with the Pick Numbers of 11, 8 and now 9). :)

Nice solid pick. Hope the vacation is a great one.

You can never go wrong with Roberto Clemente. He is my favorite player of all time. And I agree on Bando as his "no injury" is nice. Good point on the salary. I usually go ahead and buy my team so I can add players to my team and keep track of salary as I draft them. If you do buy a team, a 1969 theme name and manager is always nice! Happy New Year to everyone and best wishes for the upcoming year.

I just made my pick at #10 - Frank Howard.

Sorry for the delay, I've been watching this every couple hours since the beginning, but was away with family today.
