DH help

Postby ArtemusRex » Sat Jan 07, 2006 4:11 am

Looking for a little help or confirmation for what I'm trying for my 2001 team.

My DH would come from the outfield so here are the stats.

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2001/team/team.html

Floyd, C. L LF 3(0)e9 555 123 44 31 103 59 18 .317 .578 .390 E 6.02M
Paquette, C. R LF 3(+1)e7 340 47 17 15 64 18 3 .282 .465 .326 E 2.56M
Williams, B. S CF 2(+2)e2 540 102 38 26 94 78 11 .307 .522 .395 1R 5.75M
Lofton, K. L CF 3(+3)e8 517 91 21 14 66 47 16 .261 .398 .322 2R 1.45M
Suzuki, I. L RF 1(-5)e1 692 127 34 8 69 30 56 .350 .457 .381 2R 5.34M
Sierra, R. S RF 4(+1)e21 344 55 22 23 67 19 2 .291 .561 .322 1L 3.19M
Dunston, S. R RF 3(-2)e14 186 26 10 9 25 2 3 .280 .511 .293 5L 2.31M

My starters of the bunch are as follows:

Paquette 3B
Floyd LF
Bernie Williams CF
Ichiro Susuki RF

Before I made some trades I had four lineups ready. 2 were for regular/pitchers parks and another 2 for parks where HR were easy like Coors or Wrigley. If it was a short porch I would make my decision from there. Originally I had switch hitting Sierra (1L) being my L and R HR masher w/ Dunston (5L) my righty and AJ Piersynsky (7R) as my lefty.

However in my mad scramble after deciding to pick up Floyd in LF who replaced Garret Anderson I had to make some changes. With Floyd's power and speed a catcher platoon became a luxury so I dropped one and moved AJ to fulltime catcher. Since Garret was also someone who could slide over to CF replace Bernie if injured, I not only had to find someone who could fill in as CF (Dunston is my backup at so many positions I didnt want to have a huge problem if 2 people went down) but could also be a Left handed DH in regular parks.

I believe I found the answer in Kenny Lofton (2L) filling in the roll he did with the Yankees a few years later. Actually, Lofton was such a good and economical move that its left me with this quandry. Acquiring Floyd has thinned my bullpen and having Sierra might be a luxury as part time DH but he does strenghen my bench with his presence whether starting or sitting (when in the game I have both Dunston and Lofton as pinch hitters.) However by dropping Sierra I could pickup another reliever and another smaller bat.

My division has Busch Stadium, Jacobs Field, Dodger Stadium and I play at The Ballpark (now known as Ameriquest I've heard).

Any suggestions? 8)

Hmmm. Noticed Tony Batista is available cheap. HR's w/ low BA, good range defensively but w/ 25E. Kind of a mixed bag. Paquette, Nunez, and Glum all have 4 range at 3B but 2 have less Errors. What do you think, drop Nunez or Glum for Batsita if I can afford?

What's more important for @ defense for a 3B, range or errors?
I know OBP is more important than BA but should I be conserned w/ .238 BA especially w/ only .280 OBP. And 25 HR's over 500 AB's shows a nice pop.

Not quite a defensive replacement. Not quite a spray hitter. Kind of the definition of mixed bags. On the other hand Glum and Nunez are practically the same w/ Nunez being a better batter and Glum a adequate defensive replacement at all his position.

Hey there Rex. I'm not familiar with the 01 set at all so I'm afraid I'm not much help but two things:

1. As fas as 3B defense, there is a thread down in this forum called 3B defense, there I posted a link to some charts that can be of help in choosing between range and errors for any position. Maybe those charts can help you a bit.

2. Your link didn't work. I think you've got to go to stats, then right click on your team, copy short-cut and paste it here at the end of the link you should see an id=#####. If you can post your link here I'll take a look but keep in mind that I've never played the 01 set.

Good Luck.

Hmmm. I'll try to repost the link but when I tried it, it worked. Not sure, maybe its b/c I'm using Firefox.

Update since my last post. I did end up getting Batista. What turned it for me is that he is a righty who is better against RHP. Also, Batista has more AB'sNow, I'm platooning 2 rightys w/ Batista against RHP and Paquette against LHP. However I have Paquette set for defensive replacement when Batista is in. I figure to try this for a few weeks to see how it flys.

To do this I traded Blum since he only was only adequate fielder and a lousy hitter. Batista is actually has less errors as a SS so he can backup there if Jeter go down (god help me, no!). Nunez can also backup SS as well as 2B and could be put at 3B in an emergency. Also I had to swith backup catchers b/c I couldnt afford the trade by .03mil. Its okay b/c Estrada's only upside was that he was a switchhitter but he was a lousy hitter anyway. The C I picked up has a better BA and a better arm and was .09mil cheaper.

I'll check that link and get back to you.

Yep, it's a funky thing with the links I think that if I had an '01 team your link would send me to my team not yours, since I don't, it sends me to the Stras 01 front page. So when you click it it does send you to your team but to everyone else it sends us to our own teams.

Oops, posted twice. Sportingnews site is working slow today. Of course it is an NFL sunday.

Good observation about the link. It may also work for me because I'm logged into the team on another window.

I'll try to get that link up if I can ever navigate anywhere on this site.

BTW, where is that defense thread? I've been through four pages and haven't found it yet.

Ok, here's the link.

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2001/team/team_other.html?user_id=24398

Off to bed for 3rd shift... I'll read the results probably about 4am. Our league doesnt start play until 1/9. Also, if its possible could you look at Kile and Milton and see if either could replace Moyer and Lieber.

Thanks.
