I do not think he is actually trading the pick. He is going to pick up a player for the other guy. Then trade it to him, picking up that player will add to his payroll so if he picks up an expensive player it could move his spot in the league.

Atleast it seems like it should work that way.

I now have Cain, so I can trade Arroyo, Haren or Cain for a quality corner OF who hits righties, an excellent reverse righty reliever, or two for 1 for a great pitcher's park pitcher.

In response to some trade offers I've gotten. I got a trade offer where the manager said Cain, and meant Crain! So I do not have the extra starter I thought I had. I could still deal Arroyo or Haren for a non * starter however.
