1969 LIVE DRAFT 80 MIL DH - LEAGUE CHAT

Our historical single season sets

[quote:9e745d489d="PM770"]Are you certain you had Brett on your draft list?

The rules say the that when you miss on a player, "you get the next highest priced player [b:9e745d489d]that wasn't taken by any other team"[/b:9e745d489d] (emphasis mine).

I would hate to think that all this time I've been employing an auto-draft strategy that was based on mis-information.[/quote:9e745d489d]

I did have Brett on my draft list, but per the instructions our keepers were supposed to be listed at the BOTTOM, so he was number 25 on my draft list. I surmise that two other managers were interested in Mike Schmidt and had him ranked high in their drafting priority; one of them got Schmidt, but the other one got the next highest ranked third baseman, George Brett, because their ranking for the third baseman was so much higher than mine. I forget who I ended up getting (I think it might have been Bill Madlock, but I don't remember). Anyway, we shuffled our players around during waivers and I eventually got Brett back on my team (ended up with his 1977 season).

In the case of one keeper, who is likely a high value player, that player likely should have been listed at the TOP of the draft list. When a number of players are being drafted, such as we're doing in this league, in all likelihood the players that we're going to be competing for are priced at >$1 M and weren't drafted, and if that is the case, then that is why ranking the drafted players 11-25 hasn't caused any problems in the past. The chances of a George Scott/Clete Boyer scenario that I indicated in my previous post, while possible, is likely remote.

Now, have I dazzled you will brilliance, or baffled you with BS?

According to the rules, it wouldn't matter where you listed Brett. If Team A had Schmidt #1 and Team B had Schmidt #2, Team B would get the highest priced undrafted player at 3B. With Brett at #25 on your list, he would be a drafted player and ineligible to be placed.

The other owner must have forgotten that you were keeping Brett or was trying to pull a fast one.

Am I misreading the rules? Isn't that the way it works?

I stand (actually I'm sitting) corrected. I re-read the rules, and you are absolutely correct. If just one team has a claim on any player, regardless of where they are ranked, they are entitled to that player. Thus, someone in the previous league must have listed Brett in error.

I've been through the auto-draft about eight or nine times, and now I have a better understanding of how it works.

You know why it's not wise to tell me a joke on Saturday? Because I'll laugh in Church on Sunday.

Hey gang. something weird is happening at the draft site.

It is showing me as up at pick #82, but Jeigenauer has NOT made pick #81 yet.

Whats going on? It can't be due to the time limit passing because that has happened dozens of times throughout the draft.

I just now noticed that issue. I tried to fix it as an administrator, but I could not figure out the problem.

ugrant - do we contact tech support?

John E - did you accidentally skip your turn?

I would suggest having Jeigenauer make his pick and see if it gets back in sync. As long as PM770 doesn't make a pick until J does then nothing bad should happen
But maybe we should record our picks so far just in case  :D

I wish I knew more about the draft site. This league is the first I've ever set up; I have no idea what (if any) problem there is. I think waiting for jeigenaur to make his pick is the way to go. If he can't make his pick, then there's an issue and we can figure it out from there.

I've used the draft site a lot (AEG III and 07) and it is very stable, this is the first for 69.
I think we'll be ok
