The Mets were just spectacular, holding their opponents to no hits and no runs. The Mets defense was flawless, committing no errors and not letting a runner get past first.

New York kept pace with the division leading Pirates, holding ground in the standings for one of the few times over the past three weeks. Mets manager Gary Dell'Abate was quite satisfied with the team's performance, noting "I don't think we could've lost to anybody tonight". Of course, the effort would have been more amazing had the Mets actually played a game. New York had the day off. Pittsburgh visits next.

In actual games played Thursday... The Giants received a gem of an outing from Kelly Downs, as [u:ace835838d]San Francisco shut out Houston 3-0[/u:ace835838d]. The Yankees offense torched Orioles pitching (18 hits, 5 HR's) as Doug Drabek improved to (8-0) in [u:ace835838d]New York's 10-5 vioctory over Baltimore[/u:ace835838d].
