Need 2 More for an Auction... 2007 style!

Postby kimkrichbaum2 » Fri Jan 11, 2008 12:25 pm

My preference would be for opening a number of players, 3 or 4, to speed up the process.

How are trades handled? After the auction, we can trade folks we own but not on our roster as well as those on our Roster? I like having a "farm team". if we drop someone we "own" are they open season or still restricted?

If I remember how it used to be....

trading was allowed AFTER the auction, but you still had to keep under the max auction dollars. I.e. I won Mussina for 14 mil and trade him to you for Kazmir at 10mil. As long as you have an extra 4 mil we can do it, if not then no trade allowed.

Also, the auction never ended. If you wanted to make in season moves you'd have to still make a bid then wait 24 hours. also you could drop after the initial auction was over, but once a player was dropped, you could not bid on him again (keeps you from trying to make $$ by dropping an expensive player and re-winning him at a cheaper price).

C) Maximum players and stadiums you can bid on and/or win. [b:a9d357b673]Geekor[/b:a9d357b673], I appreciate your feelings about this issue, but I have to be honest here. [b:a9d357b673]My least favorite thing about auctions is that by managers controlling more than 25 players, this effectively blocks any in season moves, relegating the season to one of watching and hoping. So I was going to propose that after the season begins, all players revert to an "uncontrolled" status. [/b:a9d357b673] However, perhaps we can come to some sort of compromise? Can we agree on a max of 2 stadiums as the limit?[/quote:a9d357b673]

It is so difficult to make meaningful changes or trades under normal conditions... with your proposed idea of controlling more players, I think that this will become nigh on impossible. Anyone who has a team that is struggling once the season is underway, will have very few, if any, options available to remedy the situation. Great if you're playing .600% ball, but will really suck if you're playing .400%!

Compromise?

How about a max of 40 players won, then after the first 3 games are played everyone has to drop down to 30? At that point you cannot own more than 30 at any time?

During the auction, you sometimes have to change strategies mid stream, as well as unexpected winning of players, could easily net you a very bad team if we could only win a small number of players.

Not trying to be a Pain in the Arse here Geekor, just hoping that we can find a middle ground which makes everyone happy.

Actually, the idea of winning an unlimited number of players during the auction would be great by me. I'm all for putting as much strategy into the auction as possible. The drawback I forsee with a high number of allowable wins, however, is that this could really drag the auction out. As we get towards the end of the auction, those managers with lots of money left could continually outbid those who have just a little money, thus prolonging the auction [i:e832a9c681]ad nasuem[/i:e832a9c681] until the last rosters are finally filled?

On the other hand, I'd really like to make provisions so that a manager who feels that his current team is not in contention has the ability to make some changes in order to get back in the hunt. Otherwise it'd be pretty much that once the auction's over.... so is your involvement with your team?

What say you to removing all restrictions on any players in the FA pool after game 3 and removing any restrictions on in-season trades? Thus, the auction would revvolve around establishing your opening day roster only.

I'm going out of town from Feb 3 - 7. I'm not sure how much computer access I will have. It will be limited, I'm sure. If this is a problem and you feel I need to be replaced then you may.

Sorry to lose you AF... I know it's been a slow process filling this league, guess we'll catch you in '08!

I sent out some league-wide's in attempt to recruit a few more managers, maybe some of you can do the same?
