Question about 4 man rotation

I have 4 * pitchers and my fifth starter is a cheap S5/R3. Would this pitcher be used in relief by HAL?

If you don't want your 5th starter ever used, better to get a cheap starter only instead of a S/R

I usually have a S5/R3 as my fifth starter and designate him for "mop up" duty.

It doesn't matter at all if your 5th starter is a S/R or a S pitcher. Just list him in your rotation settings at #5 and he will never pitch at all except in a really, really long extra inning game where all of your other pitchers have been used.

If you have 4 *SP and a 50¢ slug that you never want to pitch you don't have to use the per game starters setting at all. Just list them in the rotation settings with your slug at #5 and only your 4 *SP will ever start outside of a very small chance (only if your *SP pitched less than 200 IP in real life) of injury.
