Each Franchise will need to use a ballpark from that Franchise.

4.Warrenbob52 - IL 832

It would be alot easier to research if you know who you are OR who you are Not.

NYMets let me know that Kreble will be picking the Cubs with his first pick; if so, I'll be picking the Mod Yanks with my first pick.

Also, I'm curious as to how the picks will be made for season's two and three.

Questions

Postby CHRISTIANSTOUGH » Fri Jan 18, 2008 7:57 pm

1. Who can I draft besides the players on my list.
A. DO I need to stay within my 1950+ Yanks ATG franchises and then claim other players during FA?
B. Can I draft ANY player (not listed on our team lists) who meets the requirement AND played for the Yanks 1950+?-
MY PREFERANCE is for this one (B)
C. Can I draft any Yank not listed on the Mod Yanks/ Pre War Yanks?
(including pre 1950 Yanks)?-
MY PREFERENCE: any Yanks can be claimed by either Yankee franchise during FA, but during the draft , they need to stick with their eras- no big deal however you rule on this issue though. But what is the cut off for the Yankee teams ; 1950? or 1945? or 1941?

2. WIll FA be waiver or Frenzy?

3. Which ballparks can the Modern Yanks take; is 1950 included?

SIDE NOTE: I'll be naming my team the New York Yankees (just in case the pre war Yankee team was curious)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Who can I draft besides the players on my list.
A. DO I need to stay within my 1950+ Yanks ATG franchises and then claim other players during FA?

No. You may put on your autodraft any player eligible on the list of Franchises not within the 12 Franchises prior to the autodraft but you may need to place them high on your draft order. After the draft you may go after any eligible player not on a drafted roster.

B. Can I draft ANY player (not listed on our team lists) who meets the requirement AND played for the Yanks 1950+?-

MY PREFERANCE is for this one (B) See above. I think this what I described.

But what is the cut off for the Yankee teams ; 1950? or 1945? or 1941?

My intent was to allow the Pre-War Yanks any FA who played for either Yankee Franchise but the Modern Yanks were only allowed to have 1945 and on except for Red Rolfe who can be claimed by either team during either the autodraft or later on.

2. WIll FA be waiver or Frenzy? Frenzy

3. Which ballparks can the Modern Yanks take; is 1950 included?

Any ballpark with Yankee Stadium starting with 1950.

SIDE NOTE: I'll be naming my team the New York Yankees (just in case the pre war Yankee team was curious)

This message might quite rightly be viewed as a pain-in the -a$$ message or at least "why the heck didn't you bring this up earlier!" But I just thought of this (and thinking is NOT what I do best) but :
1) Since we are all theoretically (and I hope sincerely) committed to a 12 season league.
2) And since we will play with each of these franchises so which one we start with surely doesn't matter.

Then why not just randomly assign the franchises so we can get on with this rather than wait on a lottery because as someone said you can't do much research until you know who you have and if you want to give the franchises to the two who have already picked -fine - it doesn't matter anyway. Just a though and now I'll slink away. This is meant to be HELPFUL not a pain.

agree with Steve, I'd like to know which team I'm looking at - maybe instead of a "lottery" for picks the teams should of just been "assigned" on a rotating basis??? LIKE;

1.krebele ny 974 - Cubs
2.Fluffyman -AZ 893 - Pirates
3.Ado Jake - WI 887 - Cards
4.Warrenbob52 - IL 832 - Dodgers
5.cf17 - MI 731 - Giants
6.daly6599 - CT 679 - Tigers
7.nymets99 - Del 530 - Red Sox
8.Genegrid - IN 370 - Mod Yanks
9.Bob Schwartz - OH 368 - Indians
10.CATom - FL 253 - Pre War Yanks
11.errormagnate -VA 084 - Braves/Brewers
12.Andy Cummings - NJ 019 - White Sox

and drop a spot each year so #2 Krebele would have the White Sox and fluffyman would have the Cubs, ECT and year 3 K wouuld have the Braves/Brewers and F would have the White Sox - ECT?????

Those are really good points.

As to this seasson- I'll be the Modern Yankees, I've already picked them and created a team with that name. (if I hadn't created a team it wouldn't bother me how we did it).

However, as divisions are based on where you pick your franchise, the assumtion is that the better teams will be grouped together.; the medium team will be together and the worst teams will be together. I think the division allignments are key too keeping this theme competitive.

After the first 4 versions of this theme(two of which I played in), I think the perception is that the Cubs and Mod Yanks have the strongest teams, so, if that perception is correct (and I hope it is not) it would be best if those teams were in the same division.

Part of the reason, we keep talking about running three seasons and then reassessing, is that we are hoping the teams are more ballanced- yet still keep the spirit of the theme. If they are not, then we need to make changes.

As to a ballanced league, my concerns were primarily about the Braves and White Sox. I think we have made some really good choices with the Braves/W Sox, but we won't know for sure untill the games are actually played. If they suck, then we can adjust them or try differnet franchises. Or, we may just try different franchises for variety sake, or popular demand.

Their are looming problems with the division assignment/ballanced league issue. Assuming we stuck with the "draft franchise by lottery" format for every season. The biggest problem is that as time goes on managers franchise choices will be limited and therefor the ballance of placing strong franchises with strong franchise will be lost.

My suggestion is that we give it three seasons to allow us to see which franchises are the strongest/weakest. Then we either
A. Assign franchise to divisions permanatly, based on strength and let managers rotate
B. Assign franchises to divisions by lottery
C. Any better idea that someone can come up with

ADDENDUM: We might just have to start rotating after this season for logistical reasons.

In fact, I think we should do this draft, and that will be the rotation.
We could assign divisions, bases on this draft, but thereafter , assign division based on lottery-
oh heck- i don't know.

I think fluffymans message state many of the same views as I have regarding the messages posted in this thread.

My additional views are as follows:

1) This maybe the first time in SOM / ATG that someone had a problem with having a draft.

2) Just because someone says that you cannot research prior to drafting your team doesn't make it a fact. I have gained a lot of fun from buying my reference book and simply reading thru the various Franchises. This way I gather more facts and gain interests in some Franchises more than others.

3) With ATG4 in the future there could be a strategy simply by when you take one franchise over another. It likely could be luck but it could also be knowing what Franchises probably will have new players added.
