Sounds interesting but like Bob just don't have the time for the administration, although after the inital setup it looks to be able to be managed fairly easy. I agree you would have to have managers with a proven track record or managers that could be vouched for by one of these managers. I'd have interest if you could this off the ground and running. It's a sound idea for an on going league because it keeps bringing in new blood like in real baseball. The current keeper leagues don't have the influx of new talent to tip the balance of power from the stacked teams. 8)

I was thinking about something like this just over the weekend. My initial thought was to make it evolutionary. Start with the first 21 teams, chronologically, as the player pool.
After the first season, add the next three teams, but don't remove any.
After each subsequent season, add three, retire three. That's 10 seasons total, and would probably not end before ATGIII comes out, which would allow an extension to the evolution.
And to make things interesting, allow 'contracts'. At the beginning of each season, owners would announce contracts to players. Say a maximum of 1 player for 5 years, 2 for 4 years, 3 for 3 years, 4 for 2 years, the remainder of the roster for one year each. That way, if a team retires on which there is a player under contract, the player does not retire until the contract ends.
It would require administrative duties to maintain the contract master list, but overall it would add a completely new strategy to the game. For example, I have Pete Alexander for five years. After the second season, his team retires, but because he's under contract he stays on the roster. Then, maybe I decide after his third or fourth season to trade him, knowing he's 'aging.'
Also, the five-year contract becomes a four-year contract in terms of roster spot the second season. So, a new five-year contract can be announced.

That's as far as I got..... thoughts?

Palanion, the key is for someone to 'catch fire' and take ownership of the idea. My recommendations remain the same to whoever that someone is:

1. Pick a pal to be in the league and your assistant commish.

2. NOT a democracy. You make the rules probably creating a post to hammer out some of it in conversation. But then you and your assistant write the constitution and them's the rules. Not to say that there's no room for correction. In fact, you should probably talk a little in the constitution about the places in the league process that may need correction (such as salary cap drift), but the correction is not a vote process. Rather getting your asst and yourself together with a couple others to evaluate the problem and consider the correction.

3. Recruit your GMs.

4. Recruit Penngrey and get him to complete the necessary functionality on his website.

5. Regarding the 'contract' concept. Sounds great! Sounds like more work for you! What are you buying for your extra time in administrating contracts manually? I'd like Pete until the end of time, but I'll take him for 6 seasons if it means less manual effort on my part.

I'd like to play in this league. And (at least in this thread and previous conversations over the summer) I have as clear an understanding of the league objectives and processes as anyone. But I am not going to attempt to be commish or asst commish. I know how much overhead is going on, here. It's work! This league theme would have to be someone else's "baby". My hat is off to whoever takes the challenge. I'll help you any way I can.
