Tour Top 50 - Final

the official tournament of SOM Baseball 20xx

Postby mesquiton » Fri Jan 18, 2008 10:31 pm

Hey DT, in my book you get extra props for playing all 7 events...especially when you could have finished first by stopping after six.

But...there was no guarantee you would have finished first. If cristano had won his last league (instead of losing in the semis) he would have finished first. He was also on pace for 100+ wins before going 2-8 in his last 10 games (as best I recall), so he might have had to win only the semi.

With the top 3 finishers within just half a point of each other, this was easily the closest Tour finish yet. Had it been horses racing, we'd be waiting for the photo!

Anyhow, congrats on a great Tour and a classy finish!

15 Contenders for Last 5 Spots

Postby mesquiton » Sun Jan 20, 2008 4:22 pm

With all but 2 leagues finished or in playoffs, the following 7 managers have clinched spots in the Champions League: [b:bff19980af]Terry101, cristano1, Detroit-Tigers, Roscodog, AZHawg, keyzick[/b:bff19980af] and [b:bff19980af]James Schubert.[/b:bff19980af]

The last 5 spots are potentially up for grabs. The current occupants, with current averages:

[b:bff19980af]8. colorado99 (98.2)
9. stevep107 (97.6)
10. hendrix08 (96.7)
11. (tie) fjzahn (96.0)
11. (tie) uncleny (96.0)
11. (tie) akindian (96.0)[/b:bff19980af]

Of this group, [b:bff19980af]colorado99[/b:bff19980af] and [b:bff19980af]uncleny[/b:bff19980af] are still in progress, so they control their own destinies. Up to 13 managers could tie for the last 2 spots. With Ev7 leagues incomplete, the following have a mathematical chance, [b:bff19980af]listed with points needed to join the tie for the last 2 spots:[/b:bff19980af]

[b:bff19980af]UNCtarheel (103)
Cummings2 (105)
Bbrool (111)
fowldawg (116)
edgecitytx (119)
bob 711 (120)
durantjerry (123)
Buzman1955 (124)
Stoney18 (128)[/b:bff19980af]

Long shots, but possible! ([b:bff19980af]Terry101[/b:bff19980af] holds the top score to date: 119 in Ev5.)

A hot race to the finish, and for the first time ever, tiebreakers might decide who plays in the Champions League!

No Mystery

The "official" Tour site has never been correct, and has never been used as the "official" ranking for the Champions League. If it's dropping 2 scores, that's just another error in its programming. Try figuring out what it's done with Terry's score...good luck! Bernie has never had it programmed right, and still doesn't. That's why I do this thread.

The "official" site is also still ranking managers who can't possibly complete 5 events, and still shows glennglenn as the 2nd place finisher last year...he completed only one Tour event!

Dropping only the (one) lowest score has always been the rule, as long as this format has been used. It's really pretty clear if you read the rules, and Teepack has also explained it that way in several past threads.

you'll have to excuse the ignorance....

i've never even been close enough to sniff the championship round so haven't paid attention to the "fine print" until this year!!! 8-)

No prob, [b:ebac085286]Ak.[/b:ebac085286] And congrats on at least getting "close enough to sniff" this year!

I looked at the "official" site again. Appears it did drop only one of [b:ebac085286]Detroit's[/b:ebac085286] 7 scores, and the final avg. agrees with mine. Looks like maybe it hasn't processed the completed Ev7L1 yet...at least I can't figure out what it's done with [b:ebac085286]Keyzick's[/b:ebac085286] score. Could explain why it seems to be dropping 2 scores for some...just hasn't processed their Ev7 scores yet.

The good news for you: Based on current standings in the unfinished EV7 leagues, the most likely scenario as I see it has you and [b:ebac085286]fjzahn[/b:ebac085286] tying for the final two spots.

Good chance [b:ebac085286]colorado99[/b:ebac085286] will drop out, unless he picks up his pace. [b:ebac085286]Uncleny[/b:ebac085286] is tied for his division lead, but with a losing record, and might have to win it all to move ahead of you and not drop out. Even if he moves up, you'd still be in if [b:ebac085286]colorado99[/b:ebac085286] drops out.

[b:ebac085286]UNCtarheel[/b:ebac085286] is on pace to win his division, but will have to win big to pass you, and the odds look even longer for the other "contenders". [b:ebac085286]UNCtarheel[/b:ebac085286] is the guy to watch, but even if he passes you, you'd still be in if [b:ebac085286]colorado99[/b:ebac085286] and [b:ebac085286]uncleny[/b:ebac085286] drop out.

[b:ebac085286]UNC[/b:ebac085286] is also in the same league as [b:ebac085286]colorado[/b:ebac085286] and [b:ebac085286]uncle,[/b:ebac085286] so they can't all win! (And you might be in anyway, depending on how the tiebreaker works out.)

I guess it behoves (sp?) one for signing up for event 5 and event 6 as soon as possible so you know what your score is in order to determine if you may hurt yourself for playing in event 7.

Do we need to consider in the future for bonusing people who play all 7?

tiebreaker

Postby FRANKZAHN » Tue Jan 22, 2008 4:58 pm

Well, I am waiting to see how it turns out. This is the first time I have been even close to the top twelve.

tie breaker

Postby FRANKZAHN » Mon Jan 28, 2008 9:38 pm

I did have three finals appearances. If you only had two, then I have the tie breaker. Of course I am assuming that uncleny is going to pass both of us in the standings so we do not need to consider his tiebreaker status.
