Middle Relief in the Cell

Middle Relief in the Cell

Postby STEVEPONEDAL » Fri Jan 25, 2008 9:15 pm

What are people's thoughts on middle relief in the Cell?

I have Kuo as my set-up guy to Otsuka as the closer.

Tallet and Looper are R2's

Should I upgrade anywhere?

Thanks Steve

I'm no expert in US Cellular, but you should have adequate middle relief for the money. 2 S5 and 3 S6 starters will cause you're R2 and R3 relievers to rack up alot of innings.

I think you need Sizemore. There's only 1 LH starter in your division and he'll play CF everyday.
Consider dropping Theriot, Edmonds, Murphy and picking up Sizemore and Guiel. Use Guiel in LF vs. RH starters and Holliday as DH.

If you want to upgrade your W-powered infield:

Castillo >>> Iguchi who will hit 20 Hr's
(leaves you with 1mil)

or

Castillo >>> Valentin who will pound all those RHP's in your division
and then
Eckstein >>> Gonzalez who will help make up for Valentin's D plus he is N-powered.
(40K short of this move)

More pop in RF? Swisher; Escobar just became available. Thames, Norton, Alou if you don't mind 4's in the corners.

To your question, Peralta has 4 BPHR's on the [b:e20a5a81b8]good[/b:e20a5a81b8] side of his card. Gaudin (5R) has no BPHR's on either side and will be much better against LHH's.

Unless your division is tacked with right handed hitters, Otsuka is a poor choice for closer, you want a guy who is even or slants to the left like Rivera.
Billingsley is a disaster, if there are any lefties against you at all, he won't give up HR on his card, but he'll make sure the bases are loaded if your opponent gets an HR on his card. I think you need more middle relief, your starters are just OK, and you are playing in the cel. I like Bradford and Thornton, Qualls if there are a lot of lefty hitters in your division, and Embee and Hancock they have a few BPHR, but their low whip for the cost makes up for it.

Steve, what do you think about getting Uribe back. If you're going cheap at SS in the Cell, he's your guy. 1 LHP in the division and 12 in the league! He'll hit 25-35 dingers (OK, 25 considering your division and league). Hardy is also available to hit against the Dirty Dozen. However, that gives you 3's at short and 2nd against LHP.....

You don't really have a leadoff guy. Have you tried Tucker yet? I haven't, but have heard good reviews. With 2 pitcher parks in the division and 7 in the league, a high OBP guy at the top would not be bad. He has 40 OB vs. LHP and 49 vs. RHP. He pretty much just walks but when he does get the bat off his shoulder he'll hit a double vs. LHP. A bit of protection for you against the lefties.

On the same note, have you done the Escobar thing yet? He's out there and will make the Terrible Twelve sweat (righties will only glisten but with the rest of your lineup, that's OK.) Getting him from Norton will help out your D a bit also. Just get a better backup.

Restrict your cheap RP's as much as possible and let Kuo pitch 200 innings.

I'll see you over on the Ultimate boards. 18 days till pitchers and catchers!

Escobar

Postby STEVEPONEDAL » Mon Jan 28, 2008 1:34 pm

Hey Palmtana,

Hope your sand is staying dry down there in the Springs.

I thought my OBP would be okay with Sizemore and Valentin at the top. Not so?

I usually try to stay away fom guys like Escobar and Rios because of the injury factor. Are my coincerns overblown?

Thanks

Steve

Is Macier the guy at SS for LAA? Early season RV train?
