When you play the board game

When you play the board game

do you keep the teams intact or do you split the players up and make up your own teams? Which is more fun? I had started to replay the Tigers season but don't know where to find the 2004 boxscores to know the batting orders and substitutions, etc. so it doesn't seem too realistic.

I am just playing basic level right now...reading the advanced rules has me  and :?

It really depends on what you like to do. There are folks who love to do replays down to trying to get the same pitching matchups and lineups for each game.

I prefer to match up players with the roster for teams for next season to see how those teams will do in advance of the season. I change the makeup as players are traded, released, etc.

The possibilities are endless though on how play them.

Enjoy!

Advanced ain't that tough. You can handle it.

I've heard people say that their isn't enough benefit between Advanced and Super-Advanced, and I would tend to agree. I do play Super-Advanced at home though.

I think it is more fun to make your own teams and draft. This makes you study the player cards, and learn the players, which is a benefit for when you play here at TSN.

You can get the schedule, score and box score for every game and most season at baseball-almanac.com---If you like the Tigers once you get in the site, search 2004 Detroit Tigers schedule. (or whatever year/team it is). This is how I do my replays. I am curently doing a 75' season replay via the board game. I play solitaire and keep stats and everything. I play each league by the month--AL Apr--do stats---NL apl--do stats--AL-May--stats and so on. I assign roles to my pitchers and place a 1-2-3-4 or 5 on SP for rotation spot and my relivers I write codes for their role ie; MR (Middle Relief), SS (spot Starter) LR (Long Relief) SU (set up), and CL for the closer. This way you can assign each guy a role and be pretty consistant with what you are trying to do with each team. I play games by the series. (Example) 4,5,6,8 Apr Det @ Bos...I play all four games then move on to the next series until the month is done then I go back and do stats. It is all pretty time consuming but very fun to recreate an entire season. I have replayed an entire 68' season (It too like 6 yrs to finish playing as time was available). Same two Series Teams except St L beat the Tigers. I also got about halfway through a 69' season and a buddie (so called buddie) stole it. Not positive on that but he loved the game and done some house sitting for me while I was on vacation one time. Anyway after that he was very distant from me even though I never accussed him of it. I do have the 04' and played alot of D-Rays games but my main interest in the 04' cards are putting together my lousy teams for these leagues..LOL.. I do agree with one of the other guys. The Super advanced rules are not that much better than advanced. I play advanced not super advanced and I am happy playing like that. Basic would not even be an option for me as I like the LH vs RH matchups etc. It is really up to you on how you do it all. Another thing you can do if time is a problem but you want to play leagues etc that you can finish in a reasonable amount of time is to go on ebay and buy only World series teams and replay World Series championships. That is what I would reccommend if you don't have the time that I do. You can go through a 7 game series pretty quick and it is a riot. Anyway,, hope that all helps.. Larry

Hey...interesting story Larry. It does sound very time consuming but lots of fun. I don't know if I could go a whole month before doing stats...I'd probably go by the week.

Earlier I made a list of the best ten or so guys at each position with an injury rating of no more than two and put them in a pool and will make an 8 team league. I, of course, will be getting RJ AND Santana since I never get them on here. 8) I am hoping it is fun.

Has anyone played Strat football or hockey? How are they?

One other thing, I, myself don't get caught up in trying to pitch the exact pitchers for a certain date or making all the substitutions that are made. Part of the fun of it is to out manage the real manager and finish the season with a better record than the team actually had. (That also works the other way) LOL... Because I replay the entire season I DO use the rest rule though.

Hey that makes a lot of sense. Use the rest rule but start whomever. I tend to start the opposition's best pitchers.

For statistical purposes, how come walks are not counted as at bats? If a guy hits a grand slam does it go down in the books as 1 HR, 1 R, and 4 RBI's?

In order to like the football game, I think you'd have to be a pretty serious football nut. We have it at home, but it is covered in dust.

The hockey game kicks total ayass. Scoring goals are cool. You can work your way to a shot, passing the puck to one of your better scorers for an "inside shot", then "he shoots he scooooores!" It's very intense IMO. There are fights, penalties, line shifts etc...

It's all there for you canuck. Buy it, and you will be in north of the border heaven.

BTW, Lammanna's guide or one of those geek Strat publications has all the replay info. You can find it at the SOM website I'm sure.

Yeah, I'm a football nut...and the hockey game sounds like a blast! Just curious...do you have to use a clock for those games seein' as hockey and football are on the clock games, whereas with baseball it's just innings, no matter how long.

Agree with Creature.. Don't care to much for the footall games but the Hockey game is GREAT. Line shifts/passing/shooting/Penetration/Power Plays/fights/penaltys/ it is all there. The clock system is in the action cards..There are different things that happen and things you do with each card then the next card is drawn and so on. Period is over when the deck is exhausted..thus the clock. It is also like the baseball strat..basic..(Much easier Power play system), and the advanced and optional rules which are really realistic. I don't have the game anymore but it was a riot. I play Baseball only these days but if your a big hockey fan there is nothing like this game.
