With 30 games to play in Ev7Lg5 and 72 to go in Ev7Lg6, the following 9 managers have clinched spots in the Champions League:
[b:66618fde18]
Terry101
cristano1
Detroit-Tigers
Roscodog
AZHawg
keyzick
James Schubert
stevep107
hendrix08
[/b:66618fde18]
That leaves 3 spots to fill. The following 9 managers, listed in order of current rank, still have at least a mathematical shot at the final 3 spots:
[b:66618fde18]
colorado99
(tie) fjzahn
(tie) uncleny
(tie) akindian
UNCtarheel
fowldawg
Bbrool
bob711
Cummings2
[/b:66618fde18]
Both [b:66618fde18]colorado99[/b:66618fde18] and [b:66618fde18]uncleny[/b:66618fde18] are within 3 games of their division leads. If [b:66618fde18]colorado[/b:66618fde18] wins his division, he'll likely retain his spot in the finals, otherwise will drop out. [b:66618fde18]Uncle[/b:66618fde18] is 10 games below .500 with 30 to play, but still has a low score to drop (74 in Ev6). He will need to go at least 14-16 in his last 30 games (slightly better than his current pace), to break the tie without winning the wildcard or division. Otherwise, he too would drop out.
[b:66618fde18]UNCtarheel[/b:66618fde18] is leading his division by 6 games, and can clinch a spot just by winning 15 of his final 30 games (and his division, but no playoff wins needed). He would join [b:66618fde18]fjzahn[/b:66618fde18] and [b:66618fde18]akindian[/b:66618fde18] for the final 3 spots if [b:66618fde18]colorado[/b:66618fde18] and [b:66618fde18]uncle[/b:66618fde18] drop out. However you slice and dice it, those 5 have the best chance of filling the final 3 spots, and all are either finished or in Lg5. [b:66618fde18]Bbrool[/b:66618fde18] and [b:66618fde18]bob711[/b:66618fde18] are also in that league, but are within 4 and 5 losses of elimination, with 30 games to play.
Defending Champ [b:66618fde18]Cummings2[/b:66618fde18] and [b:66618fde18]fowldawg[/b:66618fde18] are both in Lg6, with 72 games to play.
[b:66618fde18]Fowldawg[/b:66618fde18] is leading his division by 11 games and can still tie for a spot if he goes 44-28 in his remaining 72 games, and wins his league title.
Last but far from least, [b:66618fde18]Cummings2[/b:66618fde18] still gets to drop his low score (68 in Ev6). That will leave his magic number to tie at 105, and 106 would all but clinch his spot. He already has 48 wins under his belt in Lg6, and is battling (with me for one, alas!) for his division lead, with 72 games to go.
So...if he can finish 58-14, he's in without even winning his division (tho that record would no doubt win it). Or he can go 53-19 and win the wildcard, or 48-24 and win the division, and he's in without winning a playoff game. Or he could go 43-29 and win the division+semis, or even 38-24 would do it, if he won it all.
In short, looks like we still ain't heard the last from our defending Champ, and it's very possible Lg6 will need to finish before the Champions League is set!
