Tour Top 50 - Final

the official tournament of SOM Baseball 20xx

Heartbreak City for UNCtarheel!

Postby mesquiton » Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:20 am

The following 10 managers have now clinched spots in the Champions League:
[b:458ef983a1]
Terry101
cristano1
Detroit-Tigers
Roscodog
AZHawg
keyzick
James Schubert
stevep107
hendrix08
fjzahn[/b:458ef983a1]

Still alive:
[b:458ef983a1]
uncle ny
akindian
fowldawg
Cummings2[/b:458ef983a1]

After a great effort, winning his division and pulling within a single win of tying for a Champions berth, [b:458ef983a1]UNCtarheel[/b:458ef983a1] has lost his Ev7 league semi-finals. So, he is out.

Meanwhile, [b:458ef983a1]akindian[/b:458ef983a1] dodges another bullet to remain next-man-out (after tiebreakers) in the three-way tie for the final 3 spots, behind [b:458ef983a1]fjzahn[/b:458ef983a1] and [b:458ef983a1]uncle ny[/b:458ef983a1].

Only [b:458ef983a1]fowldawg[/b:458ef983a1] and [b:458ef983a1]Cummings2[/b:458ef983a1] are still within striking distance, so [b:458ef983a1]fjzahn[/b:458ef983a1] has clinched his spot, even if they both move up.

With 30 games to play, [b:458ef983a1]fowldawg[/b:458ef983a1] is leading his division by 15 games with 78 wins. He will tie for the final spot if he finishes 18-12 and wins the league title, or goes 28-2 and wins the division without a win in the playoffs.

[b:458ef983a1]Cummings[/b:458ef983a1] is now 7 games back in his division, with 66 wins. He will tie for the final spot if he finishes 19-11 and wins the division and league title, or goes 29-1 and wins the division without a win in the playoffs.

So (apart from tiebreakers), the magic number for elimination for [b:458ef983a1]fowldawg[/b:458ef983a1] is now 13 losses, and for [b:458ef983a1]Cummings[/b:458ef983a1] it's 12 losses, with 30 games to play.

unbelievable. i'm almost up to caring. The tour has taken so long that i could be in the middle of 3 live drafts for 2008 keeper leagues, drafting my first voyage series team and 2 live drafts for non som leagues, when i have to draft this team.

Only to inevitably yield to the superior skills of those who habitually scored over a 100 per league.

oh well, it'll still be fun! :D

One of you bubble teams owes the ol' Commish a big thank you for knocking off UNCTarheels in the semifinals of our league.

After our draft this year, I put together a team loaded with lefty killers in my lineup cause UNC had an all-lefty rotation and the other two teams in my division had at least 50 percent lefties in their rotations. I believe my strategy wound up paying off as my team batted .389 behind playoff MVP Freddy Sanchez, who hit .632 in the four-game series (12-for-19) with seven runs, seven RBIs and six doubles. He accounted for 14 runs in a four-game series!

I am essentially out. Not conceding and I'll keep clawing but I have no claws left

Once again, thank you all for a great tour. Muy Muy Thanks to Tee for all his efforts and cool guidance as Commish.

Mesquiton, thanks again for all the updates and keepin'it real.

but most of all... I'll miss you most scarecrow

Kidding aside it's been great even if my time has dwindled and my participation is almost none now you folks keep me comin'back for more.

My very best of good luck wishes to all 12 managers that make it to the finals. I know where I am placing my wagers but I ain't saying.

Getting close.

Looks like the best fowldawg can do is tie with me, uncleny and akindian if he sweeps the rest of the way through the championship. If he did that, then he would have 1 championship, 2 finals appearances and 4 playoff appearances as far as I can tell (someone else please check). That being so the best he can do is be fourth in the four way tie, so he's eliminated.

Now we are waiting for Cummings2.
