I posted this in the main Strat-O board as a response to question about the probability of the dice and how it relates to the cards we play. Sorry about the cross post here but it's been slow here lately and this is my favorite board of them all.

How did I arrive at the figure? First die is a 1/6 chance multiplied by the outcome of two dice. There are 36 possibilities on a 2d6 throw. 1/36 to roll a 1 or 12, 2/36 to roll a 3 or 11, 3/36 to roll a 4 or 10, etc., etc.

this is correct...

the easier way to arrive at the same numbers is to calculate the number of ways you can arrive at any single outcome... for example how many ways can you get a dice roll of "6" on the batters' "1" column, which is 5. And divide that number by the total number of possible combinations - 216. So for the example I have given 5/216 equals .0231. So you will hit a "6" on the batters 1 column 2.31 times out of 100 chances on average.
