I swear I did my homework

First timer here. To get up to speed on this great game I went back and perused all 17 pages in this forum and the 25 pages in the old forum (they are still there, but for how long?). I ended up with 30+ pages of notes to refer to. You all certainly are a helpful bunch! That being said, I’m afraid I failed the test. I chose SBC (1-17 RH singles) and I think I ended up putting together an anti-SBC team.

5. Merloni, Lou (R) DH
6. Huff, Aubrey (L) 3B
7. Torrealba, Yorvit (R) C
8. Sanchez, Rey (R) 2B
9. Freel, Ryan (R) LF

Lineup vs. RHP

8. Bradley, Milton (S) RF
9. Roberts, Brian (S) 2B

In my division I have the big three: Coors, Petco and Shea with 8RHP and 5LHP among them (the league has the same makeup). So with my park and those pitchers I need RHH. I have [b:65c09df703]one[/b:65c09df703], that plays both ways (Freel). Against RHP my switch hitters are getting turned around to the wrong side for the park, correct? I think what happened was I became enamored of the names I kept seeing on the "best of 2005" lists (Huff, Abreu, Edmonds, Snow) and didn't keep my park in mind. Any suggestions for who to trade to get 1 or 2 more RHH’s. As far as I am concerned, any of the above can be bait.

As far as pitching goes, I know efficiency/value wise Rusch shouldn't be spot starting but I think I need at least one lefty? The hitters in my division have a ratio of 2LHH:2RHH:1Switcher. Should I try to trade one of the *SP and stick Rusch and Halama in the rotation?

This is not a [i:65c09df703]I am 3 games under .500[/i:65c09df703] panic post. Its more of a reinforcer for the other new players out there to keep your park uppermost when putting your team together. I am hooked now although the reverse pitcher/hitter situations are constantly challenging my lack of spatial/visual skills.

you got a winner

no worries about your slow start. You've put together a very good all-around team for SBC.

you can bet Edmonds will not hit below .200 for the season!!!

good but not great

i'd actually drop Rusch and put the money into the bullpen Madson is getting shelled playing that much, as for a spot lefty go get Cliff lee or Capuano (drop Halama) to pitch against Shea teams and you should be fine. I don;t know what's left for RP, if a K-Rod is available drop Madson, if not just get some one to replace Seanez for the 4.6 million you'd have left...

Thanks for the advice Turtle. I agree a 4.6 million spot starter is not good and Madson's arm is about to fall off. There are a few R2 FA's in my price range but I will try and work out a trade first. Silence means assent on my hitters?

besides trading Rusch for a better RP, I also don't get your offense? Why is bradley, who is better vs lefties, only playing vs righties? I mean almost 4 mil for a #8 hitter? That is a real waste of money. I know, backup for Edmonds, which isn't THAT necessary. Why not DeJesus instead, or better yet, anyone better. Why not Also E Young is a great leadoff hitter vs lefties, and is going to waste on your bench. And trust me, I am a strong Snow suporter, but he doesn't do well enough to bat 3rd vs lefties, ever.

Without changes I'd rather see a lineup like this:

Lineup vs. LHP

1. Young, E (R) DH
2. Abreu, Bobby (L) RF
3. Edmonds, Jim (L) CF
4. Merloni, Lou (R) 3B
5. Huff (L) 1B
6. Rollins, Jimmy (S) SS
7. Torrealba, Yorvit (R) C
8. Sanchez, Rey (R) 2B
9. Freel, Ryan (R) LF

I always try for Escobar for a backup outfielder. Cheap and does pretty well on offence and defence.

geekor, I think I saw a message from you but didn't have time to answer it. I will check it out...I couldn't figure out how to respond to you at the time.

I agree about Bradley. A big waste of $$$. Also, your 2B platoon too expensive IMO. I would strive for a more balanced lineup and bat Roberts last vs lhp's.

Thanks all. Feeling my way here first time around. I'll see if I can move Bradley with a pitcher or two and put Young up top v. LHP.

My two cents

Use Rusch as your LH setup man and Madson as your RH setp. That will take innings from Madson. Id keep Seanez-he'll be OK in SBC.
