RJ, Santana, Zambrano at Yankee Stadium?

Postby 1crazycanuk » Tue Jan 17, 2006 7:27 pm

Hey thanks for the advice guy. I'd love to play baseball and be a pitcher. I don't think I can throw 90 but that's ok. If I could and I could control it then I would have been a pro eh? But I think I could get the ball to the plate before the page on the calendar flips. Sorry it didn't work out for you though...but it's good that you were able to play. I never played organized ball.

Yeah I guess you're right about set up men when you have great starting pitchers. I didn't think of that...probably cuz I've never had the greatest starting pitching. So I always relied on good relief. My team that went to the finals I had Gordon set up and Nathan close and man did they do well for me.

Welcome Aboard

Welcome Aboard Hugedude!
You'll find this is a great community overall and these boards are a cool part of it--and a super way to bring the geek straight out of any baseball-minded player or fan!

As you found when making changes to your team based on Luckyman's (M Wilby) et al advice [Luckyman's a hugely respected vet by the way and would be worth your time to dig up some of his analysis posts], it's all about the cards and the stats printed on them, with a bit of random artificiality sprinkled in by the online version of the game. Sometimes--although this was more common in earlier versions mostly due to improper card valuation, the game becomes a bit gimmicky because of that but it's still overall fun.

Have fun!
Cheers
Frank

I'm the guy that has all 3 in the other league. In my case I am in Shea and had them 1,2, and 3 on my draft card. :D

Now if only team would stop stuggling with my CF and that dang 15 game injury. :x

Yeah I'm still amazed you got them all. It is rare to get RJ but to get all three of them?

sorry but i just cant see this team doing well noone on the team can hit. i can see zambrano losing 20 or more games on a team like this and teams will load up on righties vs willis and pound him. i would look to trade zambrano and package him with a stiffola like kornerko to try and land some pop

It's true that my offense is not going to wow anybody, what do you expect when you have 35 million afforded to four pitchers. But team defense is great and the position players have some pop, some speed and a whole lotta heart! As for the righties against Willis, you are right, and I am planning on investing on a RH starter, maybe Leiber, when I start to play teams in other divisions who have mostly RH hitters. Even so, knock Willis all you want, I feel that with RJ, Santana and Zambrano run out there three out of every four games, I'll have a good chance at winning way more than I'll lose. I guess I'm biased though!

May be biased but you're right. I wish I had your pitching rotation. Of course I kinda have a thing for pitching and defence. I like a pitcher's dual or an outfielder leaping to stop a homerun just as much as a high scoring game.

In theory you are correct that 3 great starters should be enough. I won in petco with santana schilling and martinez problem is you will be very disapointed in zambrano. rj and santana will be awesome but zambrano is not the stud you think he is get someone cheaper who is better like peavy halliday martinez jaret wright and use the leftover cash to improve your lineup you need to get a real hitter like manny, abreu, mora, tejada, pujols, rolen guerrero any of the guys you normally see in the top 10 in production. guy in league i am in now has
rj 5-2 2.26 era
schmidt 4-1 2.93 era
and zambrano 1-5 5.85 era and he has bonds and drew in his lineup
look maybe zambrano will do well for you i have seen him have some ok seasons but i have also seen him be terrible and zambrano with a weak lineup is not a good combo in my opinion

I had a Petco team with Zambrano and I don't remember who else...I can post the link but I think he was my worst pitcher. If I don't post the link it is because I ended up dumping him...which I may have done.

Zambrano

Postby hugedude24 » Wed Jan 18, 2006 3:04 pm

It seems a lot of people have had no success with Zambrano. Now I'm going to stick with him for a while to see how he pans out, because he is a stud and I am a fan. Still, has anybody seen great success from him, that worthy of a seven million dollar pitcher?
