When someone ruins a league

Postby Jerlins » Tue Jan 17, 2006 1:24 pm

I'll pass on this one and take the next invite. Have a league finishing up this week and hopefully will grab a credit or two from the playoffs which will begin Monday. If not, I'll simply toss another $25 into the pot and try again. Too bad too, I owe Bigmahon from coming back from a 3 to 1 deficit to snatch a ring from me. Heartless son a gun he is!!! Thanks for the invite though. I'm flattered to be asked. Please keep me in mind for the next go round. I'll save my next credit and anxiously await.

I'll have to pass on this one I think, I'm out of credits although I'm hoping to get one but that wouldn't be until Friday late...

If you guys are still waiting to start up then I'd love to do it.

TSN has replied.............................................

Dear Manager,

Ok, I see that members of the league have tried to contact this person. I'll get in touch with him as well to assess his intentions. It's a tough call because he paid for the team and it would not be fair to just remove it or freeze him out. Hopefully he's just ignored it and with some prodding he'll at least field the best team possible.

I will revisit the matter once he responds. I will look into alternatives if he chooses not to reply. That's all I can do for now.

Sincerely,
Nico Gaudiuso

Atleast they are going to try and do something. I feel better about that.

Good.

This really is the best game out there, IMO.

Hopefully you guys get some resolution. Not to belabor it--but I'd like to revise and extend my remarks to indicate when I say private league--I imply a password-protected by invite only league...not that it matters but the best answer is to play with vets such as many of the ones that came on this board--they're tough but it's always a lot of fun.

After reading all the posts it made me think of a couple of other things to bring up. I personally believe that if you commit to a league you should check your teams daily or as often as possible to make lineup changes and answer trade proposals as this adds to the fun for everyone. I really hate when I make a trade offer and it doesn't get answered for 3-4 days or it gets read and the person does not either decline or accept it.
I also have another scenario to debate, let's say for example I have a comfortable lead going into the final night of the regular season, home field advantage is wrapped up. The team I'm playing on the last night is tied for the wild card. I have Walker, Everett, and Glaus in my lineup I decide to take them out and replace them with my backups to help prevent injuries before the playoffs, consequently I get swept and the guy in my div makes the playoffs beting out the other guy by 1 game. basically I gave the win to the guy in my div. but the way I figure it I want to make sure my team is healthy for the playoffs. Should I have risked injury to my players to insure a fair playing field?

Rosco, that's an age old question always open for debate. I'm of the mind to protect my team first, and if that means sitting players so that they remain healthy, so be it. The team losing out might complain, but hey, they need to take care of their own business, chances are, they would have done the same if in your position. Maybe the only time I would keep my starters in would be if I feel I would have a better matchup against the other wild card contender.

Agree with Jerlins. take care of your team 1st.

Private leagues are definitely the way to go. I joined my 2nd autoleague a little while ago and 2 teams, who are definitely rookies, now have team values of $54 & $64 million. Both are in my division so playoffs are pretty likely. They're not doing it on purpose - I don't think they know better.

I guess I was lucky enough to spend time reading all the posts here, especially the "newbie advice" thread that many here contributed to before I started playing. Helped tremendously to identify the mistakes I was making and help develop competitive teams (most of the time).

If I happen to do an autoleague and there are G.M's with little or no rating points I send a friendly message offering advice/direction. Sometimes(mostly) it is taken as it is offered...as an honest effort to improve the G.M's understanding of the game and the quality of the league.
