2006, first team. Advice needed

[quote:6259149bff="chasenally"]The first number is range and that can be OK. When you have a 3 with a 25 error to go along with it that is really bad. I would take a LF with a 4 and a 3 error but I would not take a 4 with a 10 error. A 1 in RF with a 15 error will give up the runs he takes away with his glove with throwing errors. I on the other hand have never won 100 games or my division. I have taken OF players with great bat but really bad range with really bad errors (Vlad) and just got hammered. Had Manny Rameriz and Vlad in OF with Otriz at 1B and had to scramble at the end of the season not to lose 100 games. I beleived at the beginning of the season that I had built the best team I ever had. The batters where nasty but thier defense was even more nasty. Got to catch it before you can bat it. P have won it all twice in 10 teams but still feel that a Division Championship is bigger and better and I don't have it yet. Fell short by 1 and 4 games and that hurt. Pitching and defense was my down fall and oh yea that SOB HAL. His team will stink and you know it. Help him and who cares about the rest in your league. That's how I got started. When I lost by 4 he swept me in the last 3 of the season and went on to the playoffs. If the players are on waviers help him out. Thats the help I got. [b:6259149bff]You are not trading him players you are helping him with players no one wanted during the draft or waviers or up until the start of the season. Hell you don't even want those players or ypou would have taken them[/b:6259149bff].[/quote:6259149bff]

That's definitely not true but I appreciate your omniscience anyhow. I'm playing in a stadium I've only played in once before and I stunk. So I'm frequently reconsidering who to drop and pick up. And I always like to dip into the free agent market during the season if my players don't perform to expectations. So I DO want "those" players.

Jay, here are my suggestions

Cut the following players...

Harden, Polanco, Bradley, Adams, Papelbon, and Hoffman. Kent and Carlos Lee are too similar and too defensively challenged to be anything other than a DH vs. righty pichers. Since they each hit RHP's best, one has to go. You pick. Depends on if you can fill other spots though. Seo is someone you could keep depending on what it does to the rest of your team (financially).

The players I would look strongly at in free agency if I were you, are (I've put in bold type the players I feel most strongly about for your team)...

[b:2713c0ac26]Jason Giambi[/b:2713c0ac26] would be solid for you (but kent MUST go then), Derrek lee is available too (although Giambi is the better option due to your division opponents and price), [b:2713c0ac26]Glavine[/b:2713c0ac26], [b:2713c0ac26]Tim Hudson[/b:2713c0ac26], Orlando Hudson, Shawn Chacon, [b:2713c0ac26]Denny Bautista[/b:2713c0ac26], [b:2713c0ac26]Hector Carrasco[/b:2713c0ac26], Daniel Cabrera, [[b:2713c0ac26]Neifi Perez [/b:2713c0ac26], [b:2713c0ac26]Kyle farnsworth[/b:2713c0ac26], Roberto Hernandez, Adam Everett, [b:2713c0ac26]Juan Rivera [/b:2713c0ac26](I'd start him in CF...at least vs. RHP's). Two of your divisional teams have soft to very soft rhp's...Rivera will clean up vs. those teams. DeJesus is available but with your park I prefer Rivera. And Rivera is cheaper.

I'd cut Lidge for Farnsworth as well.

Websters Dictionary [u:f35f4a212a]Omniscience[/u:f35f4a212a] [i:f35f4a212a]noun[/i:f35f4a212a] [b:f35f4a212a]all-knowing[/b:f35f4a212a]. I like it! :D I wasn't omniscient, but I am now. Good luck on your season.

Aray

That was excellent advice. I beleive that his pitching will suffer the way that it is. I just do not say it as eloquently as you can state it. Nice job. I want to follow this team as I am now very much intrigued as to the outcome of all of this. :)

Mora IS available.

That would be a powerful infield with Barajas/Konerko/Kent/ARod/and Mora. And Giambi at DH. hmm

I agree. Except Array is a proponent of playing offense over defense at 2B (at least for US Cell). Chase, I thought you liked defense at 2B? Just not for hitting parks?

I love defense

Postby chasenally » Sun Apr 06, 2008 2:01 pm

You just don't need it everywhere, but you do need it at some places. CF is one of thoses places even if the guy hits .081. His OF was really bad at range and error count and would kill him. He was lopsided at bat and RHP would have stopped him cold. It was a bad mix. I can't help with players as I don't follow baseball that much but can read the cards and the Tarot reader was showing the death card. The BIGGEST problem was the pitching, he would have pitched fatigued all season long. Oh that and the BPHR's they give up.
