Quick Hook, Slow Hook, Mop Up???

Quick Hook, Slow Hook, Mop Up???

Postby windjam » Fri Jan 20, 2006 3:01 am

This is my first team on Strat-o-Matic on-line, and I'm trying to set all the right settings for my players. Can anyone tell me the definitions for the following: Quick Hook, Slow Hook, and Mop Up? I'm not entirely clear how checking or not checking these options will affect pitchers during game play.[b:757d3e20c8][/b:757d3e20c8]

If you have a stud pitcher you want to check "slow hook" so that HAL would be less likely to jerk him out of the game after a few walks or hits in an inning.

If you have a situational RP or an average or worse SP you might want to check "quick hook" so that HAL would be less likely to leave him in to be shelled.

I usually check "mop up" for the worst RP on my roster so that he can eat some innings in a blowout. There is a certain number of consecutive games that HAL will use RP before resting them. I think that number is two. If they pitch in 3 consecutive games then they come in "tired" in the 3rd game meaning all those "@" symbols are now singles. That is why you wouldn't want to use a better RP in a bowout if you can avoid it.

Thats good to know. I was wonderin how RP fatigue worked. I had the slow hook, mop up thing pegged, but didnt know what to look for on whether or not my bullpen was overworked. Thanx :D

I don't think HAL knows what "mop up " means. I think he thinks it means put in for the middle innings in a close game. :?

I'd be very leary of that mopup box, I too find HAL tends to think that's the reliever you want used the MOST! either don't use it, or put it on the reliever you want in day in day out
