Injury duration

Postby 216 Stitches » Fri Apr 18, 2008 9:57 pm

Max injury duration depends on plate appearences... (AB+BB)

more than 680 only until end of game
600-680 up to 3 games (not including game injured in)
less than 600 up to 15 more games

You can find this in the FAQ

15 game injury risk players (less than 600 plate appearences) offer excellent risk-reward trade-offs, but when two of your top 5 players go at the same time, you could face a 12-15 game stretch with most or all losses (its happened to me). If you finish, say 4 games or less (or 1 :( )out of the playoffs, you might think those injuries cost you a playoff run (don't even think of asking if this has happened to me :( :( ).

Actually, I find the strat game fun win or lose -- I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself or myself to have a perfect team every time, and especially not the first time.

Major Restructuring

Postby DEREKJOHNSON » Fri Apr 18, 2008 10:21 pm

There's been a major restructuring going on. I'm not putting really any pressure on myself, but I always think I can make something better...even when I don't completely understand all the factors yet. I thought I understood the injury, but I think I really do now. Had to drop Raines, but when I picked him up...it threw things out of whack and then I had to make up for that one thing and that threw another thing out...etc...etc

I think the team is a more solid team than what was previously posted...then again...I could be completely wrong....I do appreciate all of the assistance.

Not bad moves except ........You should've kept Raines . I do realize though , that's where you got your $$$.

I like Joyner @1B

Your OF is now only 3 gamers (IR)

You have a better pen now

You hitting is now more balanced

The 6th SP Rijo are you planning on using him ? If not, cut him lose . You can trim a roster down to 24 players . Take Rijo $$$ and upgrade slightly somewhere .

Trust me...I didn't want to lose Raines, but I couldn't figure out how to do everything with him...still there. He costs so much. I wasn't about to cut Scott or Fernando. Rijo isn't going to start...I have four pitchers with (*) now...he's relief, but I sense...he's "that bad." Are there any good RP's for about 600K?

[b:7b0f428fb2]I swapped...Rijo and Ontiveros for Dave Stewart. So I have spent exactly $80M.[/b:7b0f428fb2]

Use the 4 man rotation and spot start Stewart and Saberhagen only at home or in similar pitchers parks .

In a $100K league but Raines was a stud for me. Performed above his card so far with 20 games to go. Also Steve Garvey against lefties is a stud. Platooned him with Joyner after someone dropped Joyner. Bo Diaz at catch has been surprising stud but gets hurt a lot. Kent Tekulve solid reliever at a cheap price. What I learned is four good starters and at least three good relievers. Cheap relievers, under 1 million, cost me 15 games.

Big busts for me were George Brett and Eric Davis. Way overpriced.

Ozzie Guillen at short cost me .56 and hit decent and fieled decent. Your park will be hard to get run production out of. I don't like pitcher's parks personally. You could use some power.

Killer - Not bad. But can be better.

[b:da3b18bc07]Dump Gruber. [/b:da3b18bc07]He's totally worthless on your team. Boggs and Fernandez can't get hurt, and Gruber can't hit.
[b:da3b18bc07]Dump Palmeiro. [/b:da3b18bc07]He can't hit. Since you're new, you may be unaware of the symbols. The # symbol means ballpark HR. And since you are in a pitchers' park, assume those # on his card will basically never roll on HR. Also, the $ symbol means clutch. All $ out rolls become Single** in the clutch. However, all $ single rolls turn into outs. And pinch hitters are often coming in to hit in the clutch. So, Palmeiro, at home, in the clutch, against RHP, is a .243 obp. And he can't field.
Your [b:da3b18bc07]Brunansky/Reynolds [/b:da3b18bc07]platoon in RF is not good for your park. Bruno has the max 8 ball park HR(#), which gets wasted in Oakland, and Reynolds has 3 (#), plus negative clutch and an e15 rating. (The e rating of a fielder equates to roughly the number of errors you should expect over the course of a full season.)
[b:da3b18bc07]Juan Samuel is a concern.[/b:da3b18bc07] He has a REALLY low obp. Yes, his speed is nice, but he has to get on base in order to use the speed. And his 3 defensive rating at 2B will hurt your pitching.

On the flip side, I like Webster in LF. I am intrigued by the Moseby/Dernier platoon. I like Boggs, Fernandez, and Joyner. I think your catching platoon is OK.
You pitching seems pretty good, however I would dump Saberhagen and Jackson. Sure, you could spot start them, but they are going to be mediocre at best in relief. You want pure relievers (no SP rating). There's an argument for keeping Saberhagen since he leans to the left and the rest of your SP lean to the right or is balanced. But Jackson's $1.29 is wasted.

I would combine Samuel, Reynolds, Brunansky, Gruber, Jackson, and Palmeiro's $$ ($6.22) to upgrade 2B and RF, and then fill whatever bench holes remain with three specialists.

Good luck.

I managed to manipulate the money and picked up Chili Davis for RF and Tony Phillips for 2B. Then filled in best I could for the money I had and who was available. There is so much to learn with this game and appreciate all the input from everyone.

Phillips

Is and on-base machine. I have him now starting for me every game, even with his poor defense. He's hitting around .260, but his OBP is over .400. He kills lefties!

Cheap starting pitching: Mark Langston
Worth it starting pitching (especially in pitcher's parks): Nolan Ryan
x2: Don Sutton
Cheap LOOGY: Frank DiPino
Cheap(er) Closer: Mark Davis
Cheap runners: John Cangelosi
Cheap 3B: Jim Presley
Cheap DH: Alvin Davis or Lonnie Smith
Cheap SS: Guillen or Uribe (saves you money elsewhere)

These guys have worked for me (and I have Raines, Tabler, Pena [c], Webster, Jack Morris, Bob Knepper, and Mark Clear.)
