Lineup to use?

Lineup to use?

Postby SGTD » Sun Apr 20, 2008 6:01 pm

I did a Live Draft and picked these guys for Fenway thinking their High BA, OBP, and some pop would work but the team is hitting .267, .337 OBP and .421 SLG. What would you suggest as the best possible lineup for this team?

C- R. Martin (R)
1B- D. Lee (R)
2B- Pedroia (R)
SS- Jeter (R)
3B- Atkins (R)
LF- C. Lee (R)
CF- Rios (R)
RF- Markakis (L)
DH- Fielder (L)

The bench has:

B. Abreu (L)
Damon (L)
Pierre (L)
Blum (S)
Theriot R)
Y. Molina (R)

Thanks, SGT D

[b:37cfa0c7d4]Sarge[/b:37cfa0c7d4]:

Against [b:37cfa0c7d4]LHP[/b:37cfa0c7d4][/size:37cfa0c7d4]:

1. Martin (highest OBP vs. LHP, A* speed)
2. Rios (A* speed, below avg DPs, high obp, power)
3. Jeter (B* speed, high obp)
4. C. Lee (C* speed, good power, LOTS of DPs)
5. D. Lee (good power, low DPs)
6. Markakis (L) (B* speed but lots of DPs)
7. Fielder (L) (surprisingly little power or obp vs. LHP)
8. Atkins (same as Fielder w/ out the homers)
9. Pedroia (high obp to turn over the lineup to the top)

Against [b:37cfa0c7d4]RHP[/b:37cfa0c7d4]:[/size:37cfa0c7d4]

1. Jeter (B* speed, best obp vs. RHP)
2. Markakis (L) (B* speed, high obp and power, but some DPs)
3. Pedroia (low clutch, low DPs, w/ some obp and pop)
4. Fielder (L) (no brainer)
5. D. Lee (but surprisingly weaker vs. RHP than you think)
6. Rios (same as D. Lee w/ A* speed, low DPs)
7. Atkins (okay obp, but could use some more power vs. RHP)
8. C. Lee (C* speed but monster DPs and low obp)
9. Martin (A* speed, obp to turn over the lineup to the top)

Not sure I agree with those all all...

vs R, there is no way in Heck I could ever see Pedroia batting 3rd vs R and Atkins is better than Rios vs R in every aspect but the *.

I personally would go:

vs L
Jeter (OB, speed, Tb's no BP, high Dp's)
Pedroia (* be damned I ain't wasting 50 ob at the bottom, lowest Dp's vs L on your team)
Martin (best OB, as well as most pure HR)
Rios (reall D Lee or Rios here, DLee has more Hr (pure and BP) Rios more OB and TB but....)
D Lee (better clutch in the 5 spot)
C Lee (obvious place to put him with the rest above him)
Fielder (more OB and more pure and BP HR than...)
Markakis (better hits and TB, but not by a lot)
Atkins (34 Ob is not a bad #9 hitter)

vs R
Jeter (highest OB vs R, speed, high DP's)
Pedroia (same hitter as vs L with 8 less OB, but still lowest DP)
Fielder (I'm big on the best hitter should be 3rd, especially when the drop off to the next best is so huge)
D Lee (2nd best OB, slightly less TB than the nest 2 guys...)
Atkins (almost a wash with Markakis, but has more HR (natural and BP)
Markakis (better OB by 10 over C Lee)
C Lee (power hitter with little hits/ob)
Rios (slightly less than C Lee)
Martin (worst hitter vs R, but speed for the bottom)

[b:d46f99185b]geekor[/b:d46f99185b]:

Good points. I just ran the [b:d46f99185b]Sarge[/b:d46f99185b]'s numbers through the Baseball Musings line-up optimizer and this is what came out as "best" (statistically speaking).

Nobody had answered his post earlier, so I was just trying to help a brother out, figuring his team was starting tonite. Personally, I think line-up analysis is way overblown, but there is sometimes a "peace of mind" factor in knowing what the computer spits out as "optimal".

Just my zero point zero two.

hey J-Pav,

can you send me that link? I used to use that but lost my bookmark after a reformat.

Though I never used it exactly, I did use to tweak my own.

That's more information than I need.

Does anyone else ever use the line up analisys? Or at least consult it? I think I may try that. Thank you for posting the link.
