<img src="http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/images/baseball/stratomatic/1986/story_photos/darryl_strawberry_2_150x191.jpg" align="left" border="1" width="150" height="191" style="margin: 0px 10px;" /> Mets right fielder Darryl Strawberry delivered the big blow for the Mets Friday night as New York beat Pittsburgh, 12-6. It was a key win for the Mets as they needed to keep pace with the Cardinals who shut out the Cubs, 2-0.

[b:a6d6cf22a2]Over the border in Canada...[/b:a6d6cf22a2] Those Pesky guys from Philadelphia kept themselves in the hunt as the Phillies rallied to beat the Expos, 3-2. Down 2-0 going into the 9th, the Phillies scored 3 times and held on to win. As a result, only 3 games seperate 3 teams for the NL East division lead. St. Louis is up by 1 over New York with Philly only 3 back.

[b:a6d6cf22a2]AL EAST UPDATE...[/b:a6d6cf22a2] In a head-to-head match up of the top two teams, the Yankees edged the Tigers, 3-2 behind the surgucal hurling of Tommy John who improved to 16-8. Throw in the Canadian invasion of Boston where the Blue Jays defeated the Red Sox 7-3 and the AL East is also down to 3 teams with less than 4 games seperating them. The Yankees are up by 1.5 over the Tigers with the Blue Jays 3.5 back. Boston's hopes are all but done as they sit 7 back and Bucky Dent not in a Red Sox uniform.

[b:a6d6cf22a2]NL WEST UPDATE...[/b:a6d6cf22a2] Houston and San Diego both failed to win and remain 2 games apart. They both had the chance to win and blew it late.

[b:a6d6cf22a2]Choke #1[/b:a6d6cf22a2] Braves beat Astros, 5-4: What does a lead in the 9th and a pitcher with 46 saves on the mound get you? That's right! A blown save from Dave Smith as Houston fell to Atlanta, 5-4 on a walk-off home run from Braves catcher Ozzie Virgil.

[b:a6d6cf22a2]Choke #2[/b:a6d6cf22a2] Padres fall to the Reds, 7-2: What do you get when your home team plays at Jack Murphy Stadium, your home record is barely over .500 and the game goes to extra innings? That's right! Batting practice in the top of the tenth! Serving the crap sandwich was Frank Wills who retired one batter, made an error, hit another batter and allowed 5 runs! Great job Frank!
