Waiver Rule Explanation

Postby GlenBrummer » Sun Apr 27, 2008 9:51 pm

I dropped a pitcher after draft but before the waivers, leaving me with only 9 pitchers and 15 hitters. The waiver rules state that my claim will not be processed unless the player fits on my rosterf:

"A player "fits" on a roster if all salary considerations and position requirements are met, assuming the player designated to be dropped in this claim, if any, was dropped."

Currently my roster does not meeting the position requirement of 10 pitchers.

If I process two pitcher claims giving pitchers for another pitcher before drop a hitter for a pitcher will those transactions go thru? Or will Hal determine my roster has only 9 pitchers and not process any claim other than a dropped hitter for a pitcher first.

The draft should not have allowed you to drop to 9 pitchers. That would seem to be a bug in the system. Whether the waiver system will allow you to get back to 10 or more pitchers depends on how it handles a situation outside the expected rules.

If all it is looking for is that you don't add more pitchers than the allowed number, then it may process. My guess, though, is that it will see that you are below the minimum required and will not allow you to get rid of a pitcher, even for another pitcher. Selecting a pitcher without dropping a pitcher with your first pick might work. Then the rest of waivers will probably process normally.

I'd let Bernie know about this in the Issues forum.

Depending on what game you are talking about, some games allow only 9 pitchers minimum while others limit you to 10. Go to your team's page and under the Help header click on FAQ. Once there go to Rosters to find the minimum number of pitchers allowed.

Assuming you are playing one of the 9 pitcher min games......Once you are down to 9 pitchers a waiver claim would not be allowed where you drop another pitcher for a hitter. If you had enough money to pick up the hitter without dropping the pitcher that is what would happen. Assuming you don't your waiver pick would be skipped for that round of waivers.
