Re: 1986 Free Teams

Our historical single season sets

Postby dennisfs561 » Thu May 15, 2008 12:12 am

Stone, I think we all appreciate that it was free. Neither rmilter(from what I have read of his posts) or I are ungrateful. In my case, far from it.

But for me ,personally, the stats aspect of the game is what is a major draw. I am not asking for something for nothing. I just want my stats reflected in my rating.

I only make an issue of it because it was explicitly stated that they would count when 86 was launched, and so generously offered for free.

Most of us understand why Bernie felt he had to make a change. We are just venting, and in my case, because I am anal about stats.

Believe me, I wish SOM [u:03bddc9d54][b:03bddc9d54]WAS[/b:03bddc9d54][/u:03bddc9d54] on another site .

SW , you been here for what ...5 minutes? You will learn over time what this site is truly like ! Giver time !

I love the game just not the host of it ! Plus you need to chill out dude ! Everyone has a right to express themselves in a civil tone not an attacking tone towards one another . I didn't and haven't attacked anyone but the site and it's irresponsible way of doing things sometimes.

TSN has definitely had some service "issues" with Strat. My only experience with Strat is through TSN, and playing the board game with my brother back in the 80's. TSN definitely has room for improvement, but I have nothing to compare it too.

Free Radicals, that you know of, are there any other games out there similar to Strat online? If so, I'd like to check them out.

My budget can fit in a new addiction. If not, I am going to try to dethrone Altec. " Umm.........ya, right :) "

I replay seasons all the time on my computer. But the WHOLE point of coming here is to compete against like minded others. Therefor of course we care what our managerial rankings reflect. And when you put several hours into a draft, and then several hours into waivers, lineups, reading box scores, ect. It would be nice to have the pay off at the end of having a championship or playoff appearance count on our over all records! "Stone Walled", I praise this company and SOM ALL THE TIME! But just like a child, wife, or girlfriend, when they do wrong(or in this case mislead) we have the right(as PAYING) customers to let them know in a polite manner!
So "Stone walled" please do not tell me I can not air my grievances and concerns with like minded gamers, and the company itself! We do not have to turn this into a personal attack on You, Me, Bernie, or TSN. But this is America, if we can not air our concerns here, where can we?????? Good luck to everyone reading this. And one last thing, "Stone Walled"; if you have read any of my posts I praise this COMPANY ALL THE TIME!!! And I am also recruiting new players ALL THE TIME!

Stone Walled, As far as me being childish, immature, and sad goes; I am rubber and you are glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you!!! No backsies either! And my Dad(even though he is 75 years old) could kick your Dad's butt any day!
However, little Billy stole my 1979 autographed Buddy Bell baseball card, so would you like to be best friends for life??????

I'M NUMBER 1!!!!!! WOOH!!!!!!!

Ok well Dennis is at least level headed and sensible, while articulating his thoughts and views well. He should be the spokesperson for the rest of those (rmilter) who feel the way he does.

Free Radicals also does his best to make the point, He mentioned that he was anal about stats at the end. LOL, I can so relate to that. I have always loved stats. Used to track all the strato stats I played when I was little on the board game on accounting ledger paper my dad would bring home from work for me. Whole seasons... lol.

As far as rmilter goes..... lol I think his last post pretty much sums up him.

I think my feelings come from several online gaming communities I have been apart of where people who are using their site for their enjoyment to meet up with players all over the world would continually b$%^& about the poor site quality, management of the site, technical aspects of the site, but yet keep playing their because its all they had. In each one of those communities they slowly faded away and most of them died, I find myself not playing the games anymore.

Now I find SOM online, fall in love with it again. I really think they do a great job with the gaming platform, etc. Sure I wish Hal would do a little better job executing my strategies, but hey this is pretty damn fun and good, when considering the alternatives. I happen to come at a time when they are just ending a promotion where they are running a season for free. GRREEEAATT deal to me, get to play it for free??? Nice, the time I spent studying the players and preparing for a draft is what I consider fun and would have done it even if this team not even counted at all to my manager ratings.

Then as I try to blend in with the community I relatively quick see how there is a run of protests about how people are getting screwed because they only had 5 free teams count to their ratings!! lol, if you put yourselves in my shoes think of how that sounds. Pretty soon I start thinking man, here we go again - another site, more players b#$%&ing until they ruin it and then they have nothing. If you want to attract more people to this game, I'm saying have fun with it and let new players see your enthusiam for it and the site making it possible for you to play it. New players will caught up with that kind of enthusiam, they will not be interested in purchasing teams and getting more involved if they think current players thinks its ripping them off.

As far as rmilter goes, anyone hoping to draw more interest from new players, and then berates them is not the recipe for success.

I can totally respect the way Dennis tries to explain it. I don't see it that way, and maybe its just me, but never would no matter how long I played, however, its the better way to say it.

Good Luck all!

Dennis , I found one other site about a year ago but can not find it now . :(

If I could I would be spending time there and would report back to folks what I thought .

It's kind of like IGA's or Red Owls ( midwest grocery stores) They gave you there house brand of goods which are of low quality because those cheap companies worked with them in the beginning . Their loyalty helped close their doors also .

Example : Last August TSN did maintenance on the 2005 season . Afterwards the game was almost impossible to get to the front office . Myself and others complained about it for 7 months . It wasn't fixed and thus , I don't play that game any longer . Bottomline : No more $12.50 . I took advantage of the 86 game only because it was free . AT the time I wasn't playing any games at all . I have had over 200 teams , most I've paid for . That's close to $5000 over the last 4-5 yrs . I ponied it up willingly but not now or until things truly change , which they won't . I don't want to discourage newbies from playing by no means . We need the players here . But I can't sit back and say " boy this site is great " Never a problem " Wow not being able to access your teams after trying 15 times is fun . "

Yup Radical I undrstand, I'd feel the same way. If you're paying for teams, you deserve to have the customer support. Obviously you're one of their big customers and have a right to demand good value for your money.

Welcome aboard Stone. It is always good to see new players here. I love this game despite it's many wrinkles and warts. Some of the old guard has left, and many are waiting for ATG4-- so the infusion of new blood is important to the continued success of this site.

I appreciate that you acknowledge, but not necessarily understand, my view point on 86.

I try to keep my posts civil, for it gets me pis*ed when posts get flamed for no good reason. While I don't think anybody was out of line in this thread, it is good to see that the tone has mellowed, and understanding has been reached
"Sh*t, that was almost poetic  "

Thanks FR. As far as glitches go, do your lineups take a lot longer lately when you try to set them?
