Morneau or Lee?

Morneau or Lee?

Postby hugedude24 » Tue Jan 24, 2006 9:06 pm

If you don't recall, my team, which is also my first team originally had the trio of RJ, Santana and Zambrano in the starting rotation. That has since changed, but don't worry, I kept RJ and Santana. Zambrano was doing well for me, but my lineup was aneamic and I was getting killed vs. RHP, which of course the whole league is primarily!

I picked up Shannon Stewart, traded Zambrano for Abreu (and Bonderman for an extra RHP), and then I dropped Konerko for Mauer to give me more bats in the lineup to kill the RHP. Mauer is a big addition, even with the injuries over my starter Matheny, who is now my backup. No matter what, the offense should fare better, and I've still got the front two studs in my rotation.

My newest question regards Derrek Lee. At first, I wanted a great fielding 1B, because I was unaware of how errors worked and that a great glove at first could not help out my other infielders. Rookie mistake. Lee at the plate (in Yankee stadium or anywhere else) is not imposing. I believe my best option is to drop Lee, and lose another mil, and pickup Morneau. LHP in my league are few and far between. Really far between. And even Morneau's "bad" RHP side is as good as Lee's. The defense is a downgrade, but its 1b, right?

What do you guys think I should do? Has Lee ever done well besides in the field (where he is "winning" the gold glove)?

you're in season, i never advise dropping in season...have you tried to deal Lee for a power 1B yet? I'd try that...maybe Lee for Konerko

oops does he realize you just dropped konerko.
I agree drops will kill your team however you made an excellent trade abreu and mauer will give your team much better hitting you should fare much better now. use rj and santana every 4th day and spot the other guys vs teams they will fare best against. you might want to consider platooning mauer. Number one he cant hit lefties and second if your back up c goes down mauer cannot get injured. keep Lee I dont love him but unless you trade him I wouldnt drop
btw 14-13 is an excellent start for a first timer esp considering late in the year most of your competition should have a lot more experience than you

I don't know much--but I think that Lee is one of the biggest underachievers in the set. Despite being burned by him in the past, I actually tried him again in Kaufmann which is pretty rh friendly (at least for singles) and he is hitting a brisk .143. Neifi Perez is doing better than that.

Keep D. Lee

Stick with D. Lee and increase your offensive production by the middle infielders. That's what's going to kill you with this team.

Your situation goes against the normal advice of being strong up the middle because you have the 2 best SPs in the game. Your pitchers will record more outs by KO than by any other means. If you play 3's that have real good OBP up the middle you'll be better off.
If RJ or Santana are starting (which they will in 1/2 of your games) and you have 3's up the middle, they could still post WHIPs under 1.00 for the season.

Mauer will be injured alot. Matheny will be in the lineup. Combined with Clayton and W. Harris, 1/3 of your lineup will do nothing for you.

My advice is to sacrifice some of your awesome defense for Offense in order to score a few runs for RJ and Santana.

Oh, and keep D.Lee-- he'll hit alot of doubles in Yankee stadium and is only a 3 game injury guy but Morneau can go down for 15 games.
