Coffeeholic,

by "breaking even", do you mean the point where a player is worth the money you invest in?

The truth is, it's not a simple answer, because it really depends on the quality of the subs on your bench. The better the sub, the shorter the breaking even; however, the costier the sub, the longer the breaking even (not sure if this is an English sentence, but I guess you get the idea).

So it is really an art of having the right sub for the right playing time.

One way to improve your investment is to do platooning on top of having injury-prone players. This way, you always have quality players on the field without overspending too much.

Another reason why I can't give you a simple answer is because of the minimal requirement we must meet with our rosters. We must all have at least 4 back-ups, so the real cost to have a back-up like Kearns isn't really 0.93M, at least relative to a useless 0.5M back-up.

Sort of Lucky,

In simplistic terms say:

My Player A: cost $5.00 mil - Rating 900

Your Player B: cost $4.00 mil - Rating 1000 - but injury prone
&
Your Player C: cost $1.00 mil - Rating 700 - back-up for palyer B

If my player A get 700 PA's: 700 (PA's) x 900 (R) = 630,000

If Your Player B gets 500 PA's : 500 (PA's) x 1000 (R) = 500,000
+
Your Player C gets 200 PA's: 200 (PA's) x .700 (R) = 140,000

So if your player B gets 500 PA's, your investment pays off

But if Player B only gets 450 PA's: 450 (PA's) x 1000 (R) = 450,000
+
Player C gets 250 PA's: 250 (PA's) x 700 (R) = 175,000

So if Player B gets only 450 PA's, then my investment pays off.

Hence, the break even point for Player B (Mr. Injury Prone) is probably about 460-470 PA's.
