Strat/card sets and closer ratings

Postby Rob55 » Fri Jan 20, 2006 8:47 pm

this has been discussed quite a bit ....but for the newbies or for those who didn't read it before ...this is what "we" as a group have come up with....

The closer rule is supposedly turned off....BUT its the same game engine as the 200x games....therefore HAL looks at the closer rating even though fatigue is not a factor for a pitcher with no closer outs. What happens is HAL will use say a Fryman in a closer role, but if he gives up a hit in a close situation he will be pulled for ANY other pitcher that DOES have a closer rating. So HAL will favor a pitcher with a closer rating every time which makes some of the classic closers next to useless for closing games if they allow a hit.

Thanks! Is the flip side that if you have nobody with a closer rating, HAL will leave the original pitcher in? That might account for the folks who have had success using some @N pitchers as closers....

Anyway, as I understand what you're saying, there isn't a performance penalty if a @N closer gives up a hit, but HAL will try to pull the pitcher anyway--unless, perhaps, all the other RPs are also @Ns?

I am going to have to look at all my past teams, but... In my 'mop up' thread, I have lamented the overuse of Wilks, particularly finishing games. Well, I just checked and with Aguilera, McEnaney and Taylor all N, Wilks with 0.... this lends some credence to this closer rating debate....

hmmm..... :?
