Thanks for the thoughts Joethejet.

Starting pitching was a bit of a concern of mine going in to the season as I missed on most of my starters - if I remember correctly Smoltz was supposed to be #4 in the rotation, not #2.

I do really like my lineup despite the injurie potential. I love the Pujols, Cabrera, Ramirez, C Lee heart of the order and for the price I think Taveras is fantastic. I typically don't mind having a SS that isn't going to hit much if I can get that all important "1" (I seemed to be the guy who used Adam Everett most in my 2006 leagues) and to pay only 1.90 for that D is worth it. Went for Soriano but got Ramirez instead and felt that was acceptable. Can't remember who I missed on in RF. Pearce seems like a hidden gem in a platoon looking at his card.

The reason I am carrying so many relievers is that once waivers ended, it seemed that was the only place to allocate my remaining salary. I expected more out of Shields.

Thanks for your thoughts. It looks like we will be a couple of players in the wild card race at the very least. Good luck the rest of the way.

PM,

No problem. I don't think Manny is all that good, particularly v RHP.

Lee is decent enough for the price and can't get injured.

Pearce is a defensive liability, but he hits LHP pretty well. Best as a DH.

There's a reason that Shields is only 1.24. He's got HUGE bp hrs v lhb and his OB v RHB is less than stellar.

Given your injury situation, I think you would have been better served with an upgrade to the bench rather than in the pen. But, I didn't really look at who was available so maybe theren't any true upgrades.

yeah, the WC looks pretty open. We moved into first place over the weekend (with Jeep's help), but lost a pair of close games (and one blowout) to the Wings to fall two back again. Ugh. Just can't get over the hump against him.

Another big series with the Wings coming up. We have to find a way to beat these guys as they have just OWNED US. We're 2 back with 30 to play, but winning the series would go a long way when every game counts double!

With Manny I may be a victim of getting caught up in name value and Strato leagues past. Still performing to his salary to a degree, on pace for close to 30 hrs & 100 RBIs for a little over $4. Stumbled on the Pearce card when looking for some type of reasonable platoon in RF. His card makes him look like a doubles machine against Ls.

With Shields I looked at the BPHRs on the lefty side and thought Camden since it skews righty might be an OK fit for him. I was wrong. I wasn't expected greatness, just better than an ERA well over 5.00 and WHIP over 1.50.

I had looked into getting stronger backups at 2b and a C vR. But slim pickins at this point.

Looks like some great races, with only the Hoosier Daddy a lock in the west at this point.

2 game spread in the East.

2 game spread in the Central with 3rd place only 6 out.

2 game spread in the Wild Card with 5 teams only seperated by 5 games.

You have been beating me like a drum, Jeep. I was 3-9 against you before last night.

Hopefully we can turn our luck with the Wings around too! ;)

The close races is what we all live for. A "helpful" suggestion for J-Pav: Since you are going to make the playoffs, you should "rest" your better players when you play me to avoid injury but of course play them against everyone else to keep them sharp. It's going to take a hot team to win the wild card. If I won 2/3 of my remaining games that would leave me with 87 wins. Enough?! Maybe - maybe not. See you at the ballpark.

This has been an enigmatic team I have here. Overall my record is very good. But like a crime scene, if you look close there's latent clues about. What my team has been able to do is find that much needed sweep at a time when they most need it. Sweeps don't occur often, but I've had my share.

A closer look at my record vs. opponents, however, shows I've dominated 2 opponents, Chin Music and Wings. W/O my success against them I look like a fairly ordinary team.

We'll see how things progress going forward. I'm still not sure how good my squad is. They could be very good like their record indicates, or they could be in the mediocre range having feasted on 2 or 3 teams to be where they are.

Keep beating the Wings will ya! ;) I can't seem to do so. Although, I did manage a series win in our last go round! 8-)
