CATCHING INJURY QUESTION

CATCHING INJURY QUESTION

Postby hechojazz » Thu Jan 26, 2006 11:33 am

If a team carries three catcher-eligible players, and one goes down with an injury, is it the case that neither of the remaining two can get hurt while the one is injured? Or does HAL only apply that prohibition when you are down to one catcher?

I'm pre-waivers and am considering adding a third catcher as my DH, as the two catchers I've got both have high injury risk. If my starter gets hurt and my DH is a catcher, I don't want HAL putting an outfielder behind the plate, so the added depth seems to make sense so long as I am not facing the possibility of having two catchers go down at the same time.

IF you carry 3 catchers, HAL will have no problem with injuring 2 of them. That is why most people only carry 2, because you have to have a catcher, and HAL knows this, so will never leave you without a catcher.

I would find someone else to DH, or drop one of your injury prone catchers and add the catcher DH.

If your DH has a C rating will Hal still put him in the field? Normally Hall will not pull the player out of the DH spot and use him in the field.

No, the catcher DH will remain the DH, and if there's no other catcher-eligible player on the bench HAL gives you the wonderful prospect of someone like Sammy Sosa behind the plate! YIKES!

Are we certain that Hal will injure C 1&2 even if C 3 is DH?

Yes absolutely. I have seen this on my teams. It works the same way if you only have 2 C's and you start one at C and the other at DH. If the C is injured a non-catcher will be put behind the plate for the remainder of the game. HAL will use your DH/C to catch the reamaining games of the series however.

Yes, he will injure the second catcher if the thrid is the DH. Also, always be wary when you add a guy like Eric Muson or Todd Zeile on your bench. Hal has funny ways of making sure they catch, even if you don't want them too.
