Looks like I'm still the oldest codger in the league, so please be gentle and show proper if undue respect when setting your lineups and starters! :D
I've encountered some older guys than me playing this game (one or two of you might recall the "Old Codger" thread). But Uncle NY is next oldest I've heard of for first exposure to the box game.
Bought my 1963 edition from a tiny ad in the back of Boy's Life, the Boy Scout magazine. Could only snitch enough cash from Mom's purse to buy 8 teams...but the cards were bigger and printed on real, heavy cardboard, not the flimsy paper stuff they sell today (since about 1966). Also none of those tedious "advanced" rules to slow down the game...not even L/R splits. Lots of rainy Oregon hours spent rolling those dice...until later in high school when I traded dices for vices....
Long since graduated from Boy Scouts, but obviously not from Strat...tho hadn't played for 20+ years until I stumbled onto SOMO with a nostalgia-driven Strat search, just as last year's online season was getting underway. I couldn't resist.
Given the time it takes to be competitive with you wastrels, I'm now trying to figure out how to break the habit...can't afford to retire, and I'm afraid internet access might be a problem living in a box out under I-15!
