And Since We're Doing Origin Stories

Postby moneymaze » Tue Jun 17, 2008 7:38 am

Giant-Size Man-Thing really existed, five issues' worth. I won't go through Man-Thing's background here (that's what Wikipedia is for:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-Thing), but G-S M-T was a quarterly that had several horror backup stories, and also introduced '70s Marvel mainstay Howard the Duck.

Manager Lee Switzler is named for the uncle of Howard's human friend/lover Beverly Switzler (his full name is also Beverly; his parents wanted a girl).

Thank God I got the top Catcher since it goes down hill from him and McCann. SGT D

coming boys...got pulled away while waiting for zim. my draft strategy got blown to bits as soon as I decided on utley over peavy. no way of going with the strong starting pitching that won the last title, so looks like Ill borrow balmer's approach and try to bash you death...

And Meat's New Strategy

Postby moneymaze » Tue Jun 17, 2008 7:45 pm

Promptly destroyed mine, which was to get the best possible defense at 1st, 2nd, and short that hits righties well, and play Ryan Braun at third. (Al should be thankful that no one in his division took Braun, whose card against lefties is better than any I've ever seen from either side, and is good enough against righties not to make him a liability.) With both Braun and Miguel Cabrera gone, I have a very fine right side of the infield, and a need to form a new strategy.

for once I wish I was in Al's division, forgot about hill and lilly. my strategy got changed in round one, and probably isn't done evolving, but the hand if pretty much tipped now...

not so nice in Nice

Postby MEAT » Wed Jun 18, 2008 9:42 am

[Tom's last act from frogland the latest to throw me a leaping curve, and just like the french, going back on his word, IN WRITING, that he doubted he'd reunite with ol barry lamar in an nl only league, what with Y.A. 's five in leftfield. and here I was all dreamy about my braun 5 at 3rd, and one legged bonds behind him for anything that got thru. not to mention texiera was near the top of the backup plan....

I will try to make u feel better, Meat

Postby calbatross » Wed Jun 18, 2008 11:12 am

Teixeira was mine at 39 if he had slipped through...as it was, my proxy for another SP came up instead. So, clearly, my squad will have some low scoring games this 'season'.

Oh, congrats on the league win!
