Banks or Yount

Okay, I know this is weird...
am in Yankee 56.
after the draft, somehow ended up with both Yount and Banks.
Have excellent LH power lineup, and have good, not great, RH bats to combat lefties
I rarely have had Yount (but he seems to hit everywhere), have never had Banks.
Need input on, which to keep, how much a defense is lost with Banks vs Yount, and is Banks power worth more than Younts EBH and BA?

Thoughts?

My .02 is Banks. Tough choice to have to make, but I'd go with Banks and use the extra $ where needed.

It's essentially a WIN/WIN situation for you. Wish I had that kind of a problem. Almost splitting hairs, but I think I would go with Banks as well. People love to toss strong LHs vs Yankee 56 teams, and Banks will give them pause to re-think that strategy, even more so than Yount, IMO. But really, you can't lose.

Depends on the rest of your team - Yount is a great RBI guy batting 5th or 6th vs righties and lefties.
Banks can hit lefties and bat 3rd/4th but against righties I find him suspect.

I'd take Yount. His 1-rating will save 21 hits a year (assuming 6,500 team ABs). If you equate that to offensive production, that's 29 obp points. Banks has a better e-rating so those numbers would be tempered somewhat, but not a lot).

21 in 6500 in WHIP would be a .03... not much of a difference... the real question is how many more DP's.

Agree with Novie about the double plays. As regards the WHIP stuff, I prefer to frame the defensive impact in terms of the player, not the team. Specifically I 'pretend' convert it to the players offensive production to better have a feel for the impact. Thus if Yount gives up 14 more errors but 21 less hits than Banks that would be similar to Yount getting on base 7 more times over the course of a season than Banks. And I guess that would translate to an OBP about 12 pts. higher for Yount than Banks. Viewed in those terms, that's not insignificant. And when you factor into account the increased double plays, Yount's defensive is significantly better than Banks'.

I have no idea which of the two is better. I used to think Banks was, at least in HR 1-20 parks. He does put up better production numbers, especially RBI's, consistently than Yount does. I've had both many times. The thing is the teams Banks are on don't bring home the rings. So I've come to prefer Yount for that purely pragmatic consideration. I'm pretty sure Nev (the real one) prefers Yount as well, PBTR too.
