RUFF ROOKIE SEASON PLAYER SEEKS ADVICE PART 2

Postby HIROLLERJR » Sat Jan 28, 2006 5:22 pm

I had last pick in my lge and i tried to go with good pitchers, because i always heard good pitching beats good hitting. i then had speed and on base type players , but no power. so the season started and immediately went about 15 games under 500. most games were 1 run, and most scores were 2-1, 3-2, type games. i absolutely couldn't score. i had eckersley as my closer and couldn't even get him in the game. i got frustrated immediately and started droppping pitching for better hitters and in return lost my budget, scored more runs which was fun, but my new pitchers couldn't get nobody out. the hitters i got were not great on d and made many errors especially ss and 2b and 3b. i do like pitching a lot but i want to figure out balance . whatever strategy lessons advice you have i can run with. i'm versitale.

I currently have a team playing that is ALL pitching and NO hitting at all. This team goes against conventional wisdom because all four of my starters are over $10 mil and I have a bullpen of Eckersley, Beggs, Perranoski, Hall, and Taylor R.

Most would say that my starters don't need the pricey bullpen, but I'm 69 and 51 so far and lead my division. I will not post this team on the boards untill the season is finished because I don't want to jinx it :)

My only hitter really is Sam Rice as leadoff and he is hitting great in Candlestick. Another oddity about my team is that I have 5 platoons going and usually a lot of platoons hurts your team more than helps it. I am winning a lot of close 1-3 run games and going into extra innings a bunch also. So while this style of team may not always work, it definitely can work, and I will be posting this team at the end of the season because of all the oddities about it, so if you want see for yourself it'll be up in maybe two weeks.

I love pitching myself as well.

probably gonna need some player names & Ball park name to give you advice.Certain pitchers and hitters will excell in certain ball parks and stink in another one.Good starting point(and it may seem backwards)IMO,is for hitters park spend on pitching;pitchers park spend on hitting.BPHR# come into play bigtime
