my original pitching was:
MIKE GARCIA
CY YOUNG
BUD ADAMS
ED RUELBACH
DENNIS ECKERSLEY-CLOSER

FIELD: CANDLESTICK

LINEUP:
F. CHANCE-1B
A. WIGGINS-2B
H.WAGNER-SS
F.SNODGRASS-3B
M. RUEL-C
V. COLEMAN-LF
B. BECKNER-CF
J. DEVORE-RF

this lineup didn't score & i started like 5-16. i got frustrated, traded cy young for stan musial, dropped bud adams & frank chance to pick up ted williams & pitcher rey caldwell. offense got better, pitching went south. still continued to lose. this is my first time posting like this so when someone ask for more info should i keep making new topics or reply to my own first topic?

You should try to keep it on the 1st post . You need to link the team to the post . Go to your stats area (left menu) after getting to the league stats page click on your team from the list of teams . In the address of that page is a long address that ends with an id# . Copy and then paste here . We'll see the team as a whole then . Its probably to late to do anything about what's happened with your team . Sometimes you have to bite the bullet on a team . I have one team right now that is 26 under and terrible , but compared to the average I 'm usually in the hunt . It would be nice to see the team . Here's link to my crappy team so you can see what the address looks like .

A couple of quick(?) thoughts on your initial team:

1) When I've gone extreme pitching, I've also attempted to go extreme defense. But EITHER way, I make it a priority to have a "1" with low errors at 2B, SS and CF (when possible that is... if I can't grab a "1" at 2B, I'll make sure there's one at SS and vice versa - I haven't fielded a team that doesn't have a "1" in CF) . Hits can be turned into outs and outs can be turned into double plays. I think your undoing may very well have been Wiggins at 2B and even Becker in CF (17 errors with a 2 rating is not strong). Wagner, for being a "1", still allows too many baserunners due to his # of errors to be considered a good def SS.

2) Eck, for his price, isn't going to get enough innings to justify being on a strong staff like this one, especially when your offense will clearly need some more attention.

I wouldn't be too discouraged with your first shot... if you were in that many close games despite these two issues, I think you're closer to having a good competitive team than you believe you are. I'd say, go with the same concept as before, even with a majority of the same players, but try upgrading your def and utilizing closer $ in your lineup somehow and see how it goes. :)

Especially in the beginning stages, it is critical for you to analyze players performances over a full season... I wish I had realized that more when I first stared out doing this. Ironically, I tinker much more now with teams of mine that are playing over .500 than teams that aren't for that reason: I can always go back to my poorer teams to utilize lessons I learned along the way with them, making my future teams better.

Good luck and enjoy!!!!

Oh, one more quick thing while looking over your team: team SPEED is more critical in ATG II "small ball" than team STOLEN BASES. Don't hesitate to go with steal ratings of a "B" and lower if the running is "1-15" or higher. It's great to have a Devore, Snodgrss or Chance - and all three are great IMO - but you don't really gain anything by having a Wiggins or Coleman or Becker who give you stolen bases and nothing else.

Just my 2 cents. Rock on! :)

I think your biggest problem HIROLL is that you picked a pitchers park and then went and spent alot of money on great pitching and relief(eck). You have a big ballpark where BP# HR's will be eliminated,so get some cheaper starters who have alot of BP HR and they will turn into fly outs.In turn you will need some good hitters to score in your park,so spend $ there(remember now you will need to get some guys who DON'T have the BP HR's-Cobb is always a good one to start with, not so easy top get though  ).You may have lost this season with team, but i think thats your main issue, and i think i said this on one of your other posts-----PITCHERS PARK SPEND ON HITTING;HITTERS PARK SPEND ON PITCHING!That would be a good staff in Baker bowl for example not candlestick(gonna always need a good closer though, but i agree eck is too pricey for me,others who can do the job cheaper)Those hitters my friend will struggle to score anywhere, let alone in the 'stick.

hope this helps,AJK
