Correct, KD's own pick, not the one via the Doc.

Niners, um, Smokey posted who Darvish is signed with - Nippon Ham.

The rules we specified only say the player must have been drafted or signed by a pro team. Japanese pro teams therefore count according to the rule. I understand it was designed to exclude domestic & international amateurs.

Gotcha, I saw and misunderstood the rule. His pick, if he thinks the guy can help his team in 2 years more power to him.

I think I read somewhere that Darvish wasn't planning on coming over to the States.

If he changes his mind he may turn out to be something. Apparently he's the best young pitcher in Japan

Yes, the rule went into place to keep us away from NCAA college baseball players who have yet to have been drafted, or those international players (such as Cuban defectors and S. American phenoms) that haven't been drafted or signed by anyone.

I am going to hold off picking in the prospect draft to give Sykes a chance to get home after his golf game. Hopefully he won't spend too much time in the bar afterwards. As I understand it, he had a really busy week at work last week, so we'll cut him a break here  :)

Darvish was a flyer pick to be sure. He is eligible to come to the states as soon as he expresses a desire to come and his home club allows for him to be "posted" ala Dice K. Given the shifting focus of the Japanese ball clubs to reflect the business nature and goals of the their American counter-parts, it is not unreasonable to assume that the courting of the young phenom would begin ASAP if it has not begun already. And Nippon Ham would be eager to get a DICE K size posting fee (51 million for Dice K I think and potentially 75 million or more for the "Whirling Darvish) . Even worst case he is eligible for the MLB in 2011 should he want to come. I understand it is a gamble but the kid's stats put Dice K's to shame. We will just have to wait and see on this one. I read somewhere that if he was included on Baseball America's best prospect list he would have been ranked behind Bruce and Longoria but ahead of Joba and Clay. Now that is nice company to be sure.

Now that's what I call a prospect draft![/quote:b923d12508]

ditto that. Masterson better be the guy I hope he is, otherwise I am gonna be on the wrong end of a Herschel Walker style fiasco.

I actually like the pick a lot, but it makes my patience in my picks seem short-term.

We are skipping Sykes (by his own request). Guess the golf game didn't go too well...
