I posted my team after season began and I know now to do it before hand to make some adjustments. So, here is my a new team for you all to bash away at. I am going fo rmore pitching so if you can give me tips and/or comments in that direction, feel free. I am playing Petco and our division has 2 petcos and two BOB's.

I don't think you need Linebrink and Guardado. Check the other teams in your division. If they've got a lot of lefty bats, keep Guardado. If there's about an even ratio of switch-hitters and lefties, keep Linebrink. Downgrade at reliever and upgrade at C or DH.

Is this a DH league or a non-DH?

Good luck.

I agree with teepack: don't spend as much on your bullpen, and consolodate the money in your pen on some studs. I think in Petco you could drop Zambrano and pick up a 3-4 mill pitcher to save some more money to help your hitters.

Personally, I would upgrade Giles and Furcal. If you will face a lot of LHP, Giles offense will overcome his defense, if not, spend a little less and get a 2b that can play defense but might not hit so well. Furcal in the field scares me, and he will do only OK at the plate. Spend the money you save "downgrading" Giles on a better shortstop fielder and hitter.

I think your catcher is fine, especially for Petco and the money you save could be better spent on a good DH, preferably a lefty hitter to face all the RHP you are bound to see. So downgrade Zambrano, Giles and bullpen and upgrade Furcal and DH. It's worked for me, but what do I know?

The great benefit of playing half your games in a place with virtually no BPHR is that you can use cheap gopher-baller starters hand-picked to exploit your opponants' weaknesses and then apply the cost savings to bolster your starting lineup. Some might disagree with me, but, for example, I'd eagerly shop Santana for someone like Abreu or Ichiro and then scour the FA list for a couple of cheap situational starters to replace Santana with.

To compete in your park, you're going to need (1) better left-handed hitting balance (2) higher average hitters with good clutch ratings (3) guys whose slugging average is derived from doubles and triples rather than home runs (4) if not good base stealers, than optimally * rating guys who can run the bases (5) and guys who avoid the GBA... Ichiro, Abreu, Damon, Newhan, Klesko, Erstad, Burke, Mora, Loretta, Kendall... On the cheap side, KRob, Miles, E Young, A Sanchez, Merloni, C Gomez...

Kotsay, Overbay, Rivera and Castillo are good building blocks.

Definitely agree on the bullpen...also think you should replace Zambrano with a 4 mil guy as was also said. Your offense is going to struggle in Petco. You really need a lefty who mashes righties--Sheff is going to have a rough time producing in Petco (and I think there's another Petco in your div). He basically has 8 nat xbhs vs righties and only 37 TBs--and from the looks of the staffs you'll be facing you're sure to see righties. You have no one to scare those righties off.

Kotsay's nice in Petco (anywhere for that matter)...you won't need 2 shortstops...I'd keep Tejada.

Whew--let's turn two! Double Play mania! Ramirez, Bautista, Tejada all like to hit into one about 25-30% of the time off their cards. One thing about Petco is you'll have less baserunners and hits than in a typical park--the last thing you need are double plays.

So basically I think it's consistent with what other inputs you got--likely should spend about 5 mil less on your pitching and pick up some offense...need a scary lefty vs righties maybe to bat 3rd...and seems you need a leadoff guy too...

ditch Vizcaino--Tejada can't be injured can he? basically Vizcaino and Encarnacion lookj like 1 mil wasted between them--your bench guys should be ~.50 unless you have an injury issue

I agree with most of MarkP post--but I'd keep Santana and downgrade Zambrano...I dunno-- anyone else care to chime in? For Zambrano's OB chances, you'd be better off with Pedro Martinez for instance, at 4 mil.

Keep Duchy too!

Hard to see your team makeup--looks like you're in the middle of making changes

Your team is really coming together and much improved! I think your staff and bullpen are great, with newbies Gagne and Ayala, and major upgrade with Tejada at short.

Again, Zambrano (at Petco and in general) and Belliard are overpriced IMHO. I'd downgrade them and try to upgrade Bautista to another lefty bat (but I'm a big fan of lefties). If not a lefty, still get some bang in OBP, etc. from one of the players listed above for 4-5 mill left from Zambrano and Belliard downgrades. I personally believe that there is not too many excellent 2nd grade options in 2005, so I tend to have that as my weakest hitting position, but great fielding position, and spend the money elsewhere where it can have more of an impact. But again, what do I know?
