I was wrong about this. KD will in fact finish in round 3 and fill out his roster to 40 with my pick. I, however will only be able to pick 2 players and will stay at 39, unless I can pick up an extra supplemental pick from someone via trade, until next spring.

matter of opinion. I propsed the deal, so if anyone did any screwing, I did it to myself.

Utley, Wright and Fielder in my park make for an impressive 3,4,5 for a number of years IMHO so it was worth the steep price. I don't know if you are bitter because we had been discussing Longoria in a possible deal, but that was a bit uncalled for IMHO.

Bottom line, Utley is the top player at his position and KD wouldn't move him without extracting a premium price, did I overpay, maybe, but I think he's worth it, not only this year but in the future.

Lets take a look at the deal:

Everything Niner mentioned about Utley is correct - he is the premier 2B in the game. In his park Utley, Wright and Fielder will put up boxcar numbers.

Longoria is a can't miss player, but he's no good to me this year. So I'm basically writing off this next season to build for the future. Aybar is, at best, a defensive specialist with an average bat for a middle infielder, and is injury prone. The supplemental pick will net me a player like Dmitri Young or a reliever that may pan out next year, which isn't much. A 1st round supplemental pick isn't like a 1st round F/A pick, especially in our limited pool of available players this year.

To me the best parts of the deal are the prospect picks, and the F/A pick next year. But the prospect picks are crapshoots which may pan out 2 years from now. And who knows who will be left by the 3rd round of the F/A draft.

I did get a premium for Utley, but only time will tell whether I made out like a bandit or whether I'm stuck with a collection of Joe Charboneaus.

longoria is good for the futre, but utley isnt old. He is ranked in the top 5 in production. I think niner got a bargain. He got 1st round pick for longoria who would be at most a 5th round. but he may pan out to be great. Niner great deal.


Beltran is still for sale. I know i have over priced him, but willing to listen to offers again. I need help at SS I also have 2nd basemen for sale

Okay, I don't know how closely you guys look at my spread sheet, but the is a tab labeled, Alpha Rosters '08, where everone's roster is listed alphabetiacally in alternating grey and white columns. To date there have been 10 trades, Not one single trade has occured between teams on that sheet with the same color column. It's always been a grey team trading with a white team. :shock:

I know some of you have had a hard time getting deals done, maybe you need to reference that sheet and see if the team you are trying to make a deal with is the opposite color from you :wink:
