How To Sub For Injured DH?

How To Sub For Injured DH?

Postby lafayette1 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 10:02 am

My DH is out for the first game of tonight's series. How can I replace him with my super sub for 1 game? In defensive replacements, there is no designation for DH.

Hi lafayette,

You can't replace your DH. You could juggle your lineup to get your sub in the game but then depending on how you do things your DH would not play for the last 2 games.

I've always kind of wondered this and it seems like the right time to ask, why don't they have a spot so you can have subs for your DH like all the other positions? :?

because it is a DEFENSIVE substitution, DH is not a defensive position.

for all intents and purposes though it's just as much a lineup substitution.

I think there's no DH substitution preference because it would increase the occurrence of people playing out of position. If a position player in the line-up is substituted for an injured DH, then that player has only one preferred back-up listed (who is probably listed as a substitute for other positions too). With bad luck, the domino effect of substitutions would be more likely to lead to out-of-position (i.e., extremely bad fielding) substitutes, which you could be stuck with for the 2nd and 3rd game of a series. That's my guess, anyway: there's no DH substitute because it would likley lead to having only one listed substitute at some position, and with bad luck that could lead to out-of-position starters.

I think this is a great question!!! Why can't you list a backup DH on the lineup cards?
