Best start ever?

Postby cirills » Tue Jan 31, 2006 6:44 pm

My first Tour Team last year started 35-4!!!

For real!!!

But just don't ask how it finished!

PS -- That started to sound like ME in the above post by Cummings -- EXCEPT that I did not tinker THAT much with that team AND I almost never urge people to make drops. Most the advice I give is pre-season.

However, I DID believe I fell victim to some fine tuning in the RP abuse code that hadn't been finalized yet when last season first got underway.

C'est la vie.

Oh shrink, it wasn't you and you know that. I haven't been in a league with you...but certainly would like to, I've been reading good posts from you in the forums for a while. Drop me an invite to any league of yours, would love to match in the same division with you.

This substandard lifeform-guy sent me a league mail at one point trying to sell me on the idea that Coco Crisp would upgrade my CF...I was playing Andrew Jones.

I'm in this league with tee, and his boys took 2 of 3 from me last night (thanks in part to a Mike Lamb 9th inning homer).

Tee, I've had a few of these fast starts this season, and [b:7b02a238c2]every single time[/b:7b02a238c2] HAL has put the brakes on somewhere after the halfway point. J-Pav and I have discussed this, and there seems to be some sort of team record normalizer built into the program.

I'm willing to predict right here and now that this team will win between 95-100, but most likely closer to 95.

And then my wildcard team will beat you in the first round. :P

A team win normalizer? Now I'm a big believer in conspiracy theories, but I have a hard time believing they'd do that. I don't see how you could control it. But I will admit that I was a little surprised when I checked the record books and saw that the best record so far for 2005 ($80 million teams only) was 109-53, and that only five teams had won as many as 105 games. Out of the thousands of teams that have been played, I thought for sure somebody would have put together a dominant team in an autodraft somewhere and won 115 games or so.

At least now, when my team goes into its inevitable prolonged slide, I can blame TSN!

I don't know what other evidence you would need...

This was my best effort of the year:

I am pretty proud of it considering the comp in that league:

AP, Penn, KD and Jaser to name just a few.

[quote:400d88b6ba="teepack"]Holy smokes. You went 17-37 down the stretch? What happened? Did you have a rash of injuries? Did you tinker with your roster?

Man, you guys are not making me feel any better.[/quote:400d88b6ba]

It was a theme league and very few deals/changes were made to any team once the season started. I was in a tough division, though:

98-64 (my div winner, best record in league)
90-72 (other div winner)
88-74 (my div wild card, 3rd best league record)
82-80 (my div 4th best record)
81-81 (me, 5th best record)

The other div winner was 78-84.

cracking me up, rgimbel!!

0-for-35! how do you do that?

It's funny how human nature is. I have so far resisted the urge to tinker with my team, but I have two series of moves that I am contemplating, and I've sent out a couple of trade feelers. But I'm not going to do anything anytime soon, I've decided. I don't change my lineup unless a guy gets injured, but I do change my relief settings from series to series, depending upon the other team's lineup.

Did anyone check Ginter for steroid use after the season?
