Bagwell real life situation

As I understand it bagwell has one year left on his contract with teh Astros and will be paid by the club whether he plays or not. The club could get most of the money they are paying Bagwell for that final year back if they were able to collect the insurance - which hinges on Bagwell not being able to play.

What I'm not sure about is what happens if the Astros do get a favorable ruling from the insurance company and get paid. Will they put Bags on the injured reserve and force him to sit out the season? If they released him would they lose the insurance money if he was able to play elsewhere? What if the the Astros collect and it turns out Bags can play come spring? Does anyone think they'll give the money back?

I'm guessing that the insurance policy only kicks in if Bags cannot play.

If he gets released and signs somewere else and I'm the insurance company, I'm definitely looking for money back.

Sure he can go somewheres and play for the minimum, play a little 1B and be a clutch pinch hitter. But the rubbers gone on that tire...he's not worth 1/2 of his contract. If the insurance company wants to sue the Astros, they should only get reimbursed Bags current market value.

As you may know, the Astros sent Bagwell to Birmingham to see me (for a biomechanical evaluation) and Dr. Jim Andrews (for a medical evaluation). Since I am somewhat in the middle of this situation, I can't really give too many specifics. All I wanted to share with you guys is how impressed I was with [b:50a0f6ad65]all[/b:50a0f6ad65] of the people involved. The people I've been working with in the Astros front office have been professional and caring. Bagwell visited me in certainly an uncomfortable point in his career, but in the hours I spent with him it is clear that he is a super-nice person of character.

Biomechanical - thanks for your reply. Its good to know that Bags is as a good person as I thought he is. I am also glad to hear the Astros were not an arrogant big league team.

At this point, just hope things work out for both sides for the best.
