Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Frustrated

7 teams. 4 in the Playoffs. 0 making second round of playoffs. Last night 2 of these teams were in the playoffs with 1-1 records on the first night and both went 0-2. In one, HAL kept my worst reliever in (set him at avoid RH and quick hook) for 5 innings until he lost the game.

Can anyone tell what I am doing wrong? I'd like to think it is just bad luck but...

In my last playoff team, Boggs and Gwynn (who were both top 10 in hitting during the year) went like 1 for 20. That was just unfair.

Oh well. Still have a team or two left on my 5-pack.

It's nothing you are doing. It's just luck.
Over the course of a season, you don't notice when players don't produce for five or seven games.
In a short series, where you are counting on them, it is magnified.
My lone championship team I thought i was done with Bobby Grich, my best hitter all season long, he batted near .300 and crushed 40 dingers, was hurt in the first game. To compound matters, my next best hitters, Kal Daniels and Calrton Fisk, also went down for a couple of games,
And because I was forced to go five games in my first series, Bill Gullickson who had disappointed me all year had to start two games.
Thought I was done. But, Gullickson wins both his starts, Jerry Browne batted over .400 and Grich comes back in the 7th and hits two home-runs.
Luck, luck, luck.

24 80's playoff teams, 3 championships.

Sorry, but I lack the empathy you seek.

I still love this game tremendously more than any of the other SOM products and I enjoy the challenges of teh mystery card and the community of managers who play it. I do feel that the Karma will flip back to the winning side of things for me eventually.

I have more luck in ATG2 and 200X.

Chalk it up to luck, pick up the pieces and buy another 5-pack when you can. It's more fun than anything else.

whats really annoying was that both teams were the second best teams in their respective leagues during the regular season, but the best team was in the same division so I had to play them in the first round.

No sympathy here, 14 completed teams, 2 playoffs, no RINGS. I still play and I learn with every league that I play. I know eventually (At least I hope I am not the reincarnation of Gene Mauch) that ring will be mine.

5 game series...anything can happen. You'll get there. It's better than not making the playoffs!

I have 3 100 win teams that lost in the semis. Happens to us all. Sucks for us all. 4 outta 7 in the playoffs is pretty outstanding, though.

On the topic of whining, this team was first in runs, 4th in pitching, 2nd least amount of errors and didn't make the playoffs. There were alot of one run losses and 10 run blowouts.

sorry for the whining but Ive needed to get that off my chest for a while.

I just lost the championship series in 4 straight with this 104 win team. They "only" won 104 games because I rested my 3 "big guns" for the last 12 regular season games.
