When someone ruins a league

Postby 1crazycanuk » Wed Jan 18, 2006 8:45 am

Hey Roscodog...I usually give a few hours for a trade offer to get read. If they haven't read it or they don't accept/decline then I rescind it. I ain't got all day or three or four days to sit around and wait.

The other day I shopped Hafner around. Few hours later nobody answered so I dropped him. He was worthless for my park and divisional situation and I didn't have days to sit around and wait. I check my team every day and answer offers...I expect the same from everyone else. Otherwise they shouldn't bother playing.

Resting or playing your regulars in the situation described is a personal decision. Neither is wrong despite any complaints that might result.

On the advice to only play in vet leagues with vet players, I do want to point out that all vets were once rookie players. If we "only" played vets then we would get really bored with each other's company with no new blood to take advantage of . . uh, teach the ropes to. :D

Lots of very good new players I've had the pleasure to play against and often lose against.

It's a game, and everyone should get a chance to play it. Those who intentionally disrupt it (not through ignorance but through malice) will become known and avoided. This type of person does it to get attention so if he doesn't listen to reason then reporting him to TSN and then ignoring him is the best way to get him to go away.

You know CFharlie you hit the point I wanted to make. It is sad because as a new player I had any number of helpful folks willing to spend time and tutor me. So, when we all tried to do the same with Trolleydodger it was sad to see that his frustrations went towards nihilism. You could see it beginning to happen. Like I said first it was pique when you wouldn't trade x or y although I did do a deal wth him. I don't think he appreciates how competitive this game is.

I am veteran of other games and basketball with SN. I got the hang of that a lot quicker. This is just hard to win at consistently. I have two teams now that were way up like 15 games over .500 and then the vets starting finding the weaknesses and now I am struggling to stay in winning territory. So, when the "death spiral" first hits you, some people panic, some gut it out and some get nasty I guess.

So, I agree that it is probably time for me to go to a password league or vet league not becaus eI am ready yet but that is where you can really learn.

So, I wish Trolley hadn't done what he did because it does kind of mess with the spirit of the league. I don't know, I played the old spinner All-Star game for years as a kid, made my own palyer's cards when I figured out how to allocate 360 degrees of chances. It was fun, but playing on-line is more fun because it is against other people. That's the point it seems to me you have to respect other folks and that means do your best even when your team is falling apart. I had a team recently with PBTR and some others where my team fell off the map, everyone passed me but hey I finished 27-8. You just cannot tell, that's the beauty.

Anyhow those of us in the league do appreciate the posts. I think we were a little frustrated at first because posters didn't understand all that had transpired.

On 1/31 with +/- 30 games left, the team in question was rebuilt. Just in time to screw everyone inside his division. The majority of his thrown games were outside the division. Would like to know what is going on. Did the original owner come back or did TSN take over the team?

Sure would like to know.

Just want a level playing field for everyone.

How can you "rebuild" a team? The more you drop the more money you lose and you are only going to get worse players. I am :?

In response to 1crazy, the team is actually competittive, in fact I think he just won 4 in a row. I would remind everyone this was a $100 million league so even with the trashing he had a $75 million team. He had gutted his team and stashed $62 million, now he used that up and has a decent team. cwoSteve is entirely correct, although I think the Baysox will get the wild card. But I am still alive (barely) due in part to my playing Trolley at his worst. I won 18 of 21 including six against Trolley to get back in it. Now the team is competitive and the guys in his division get a huge disadvantage. It might not make a difference in the end, but this has been bizarre all along. The Trolley team had a 45 game losing streak followed by like a 4-10 record followed by a 25 game losing streak.

If TSN is doing the revitalization they are a little late. If it is Trolley the guy is even more hostile than I thought. It really tainted the league. Sad.

I had a team that made it to the 3rd Round of a ATG II Tournament, thought I had a good team for Polo Grounds '11 and went 46-116 and I was trying to win. Team started the season on with a 14 game losing streak and at the end of the first week I was 2-19 and never recovered. I could not win a game if I was spoted 10 runs. I had:

Carlton- 10-18
Drysdale- 8-18
G. Bell- 4-20
J. Perry- 2-8

[b:a9e6f140a2]Hitting[/b:a9e6f140a2]

Campanella
York
Doerr
Boggs
Wills
Simmons
Ennis
Coleman
T. Williams-Had to drop him to try and pick up some pitching and he was hitting around .230-.240.
It sucks to lose :( when you are trying to win and I was telling people I was sorry for having a crappy team  . I could have scrapped this team but I hung in there not believing that the team could not win. SGT D

This team is having a huge effect on who makes the playoffs or not. I'm probably the guy who is going to miss the playoffs. This really sucks.
