Rise of Nations is a real time strategy game. Anybody that grew up playing some of the Avalon Hill or TSR board games would probably like it.
You control civilians to build, mine, chop wood and basically gather resources at the same time you "buy" technological advancements for your civilization which upgrades different things. You also build armies to defend or attack. You can set the game up to start in any age but I like playing the Nuclear age! I just can't resist an opportunity to nuke the French from time to time. You can't do it to often though as there is an Armageddon countdown. It's a fast paced game with a very good AI.
It's put out by Microsoft and Big Huge Games.
